Deep Discount Spring 2009 Sale? - Page 2

Re: Deep Discount Spring 2009 Sale?

Now it seems to not work - just lost the discount from my shopping cart!
Sorry for the false (or extremely truncated) alarm.

That BSG set is exactly why I'm positive that the sale will be over before that set comes out. If the sale is on during its release, they'll raise the price so they're not selling it for less than $200 while all the other sites are selling it for $240. If not, the entire internet will order it from them.

If you use one of the regular monthly coupons from DVD Planet, you can already pre-order the set for $235, which is the cheapest I've seen so far, and not too out of line with what I was expecting this set to run before it ever got announced. In the past, the DD sales have yielded discounts in the 42-48% (off msrp) range. For me, anything below $235 is going to look like a good deal. $210 would be 40% off msrp, and between $210 and $235, there is room for DD to raise the price prior to the sale and still offer the best discount on it.
Unfortunately now that Amazon is charging sales tax in NYS, any discount they offer ends up being almost 10% less after the tax hit anyway.

Of course all this could end up being meaningless anyway.
If they were testing codes last night, it looks more and more like the sale will hit in it's usual time frame. And that would make it the first time the sale has actually disappointed me. I'm hoping for July, but it's not looking good.

Wow, that was quick!

Re: Deep Discount Spring 2009 Sale?

Keep an eye on your Amazon quick picks of the day for the BSG set. At the time the quick pick discount was $11.85. This was when the selling price was 30% off of MSRP now it's up to 32%. The quick pick discount stays as the pre-order price drops. My pre-order is down to $225 and some change.

Re: Deep Discount Spring 2009 Sale?

I read in the DVDTalk Bargains Forum that the Deep Discount sale will be 20% this year and will be held around July 17.

Apparently there is a Deep Discount brick & mortar store in Illinois (that is closing) and the information came directly from staff.

It doesn't say whether the sale would extend to July 28th, though, which is when the BSG set comes out.

Re: Deep Discount Spring 2009 Sale?

so it is definitely in July? Wow. I guess I will have to make sure I have enough money on my credit cards to buy the dvds I want.

Re: Deep Discount Spring 2009 Sale?

I'll be happy if they will put I Love Lucy complete on sale for $89 like they had before. I missed getting it! I did get Dick Van Dyke, thank God!

Also, I'd like them to put Gomer Pyle complete or individual sets on sale.

As for the 20% thing, I'd probably only pick up the odd DVD movie here and there.

Re: Deep Discount Spring 2009 Sale?

I don't think I've ever ordered during their sale so I have a question. If something isn't out yet and it's a pre-order, does the sale price apply? Or is it only on stuff that's already out?

Re: Deep Discount Spring 2009 Sale?

No, it's not good on pre-orders, unfortunately.

Re: Deep Discount Spring 2009 Sale?

Has anyone who used the "LATIMES" code actually received a shipping confirmation yet? I placed two orders and both of them are in 'limbo' status - they show as open/processing and not shipped. I'm a little concerned...

Re: Deep Discount Spring 2009 Sale?

Only stuff that's out; I generally make a couple Tuesday orders.

Re: Deep Discount Spring 2009 Sale?

IIRC in the last sale, anything that was scheduled to be released within the boundaries of sale period was coming up with the discount. I'm pretty sure I placed more than a couple 'advanced' orders that got the discount.

There is a post on DVD talk that explains the system for processing orders.
Basically, since the sale was never on, these aren't legitimate orders and as such never made it to the actual warehouse to be processed. They show up on our end in the account info, but they don't exist beyond that.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm breathing a big sigh of relief since it looks like July will be the date now.
Even if the sale misses the BSG set by a day or two, there are still a good number of Bds, TV sets, and other stray releases I'd like to pick up that are released next month. This will also give me some more time to sell off some stuff I don't need as well.

I just placed an order for the back-half of Dark Shadows that I needed (Sets 14-26) to complete my collection. Saved an additional $131.70 with the coupon code.
I'm glad to know the sale appears to still be going ahead. I need 15 more sets to complete my Dark Shadows collection.

Any information yet about the possible July 2009 discount sale, the dates and/or the discount percentage?

Kinda like how this thread got started a whole month ago...without any indication that the sale was even forthcoming!

Without a doubt.

But, as has been pointed out on a number of occasions...it is too bad Deep Discount did the HTF wrong by refusing to acknowledge that anyone used a special HTF code in the last Discount sale.

from dvdtalk
DeepDiscount.com's semi-annual 25% off DVD and Blu-ray sale starts July 17 and runs until August 2, 2009. The orange note I got with my order today from DeepDiscount gives the word HOTSTUFF as one promo code.

Thanks for the early warning!
If the price on the Battlestar Galactica Blu-ray set (currently at $239.51) doesn't shoot up before the sale, I'll be picking that up. It may be back ordered for a month and a half but if I can get it for under $200, it'll be worth the wait.

I LOVE getting a definitive answer to a question...

Totally looking forward to dropping some serious money on only two sets this year: BSG BD and Queer as Folk.  It'll be after we get home from vacation, of course.
Does it apply to CDs and books as well?
I'll be looking forward to this as soon as I get back from my Vacation next week. :)

I'm looking at getting:

Season 6 of Hawaii Five-O

Season 6 of Mission Impossible

The Red Hand Gang
