ohm vs. watt question

thinking of upgrading my receiver. the receiver i have now is rated at 130w at 6ohm and the one im looking to buy ia 110w at 8 ohm. my speakers are rated at 250w at 8 ohm. would i be improving my sound or not?

What models and numbers? Some times receivers are rated @ 6 ohms to advertise a higher power rating. In any event, power ratings on receivers and speakers are really not as important as many people think. There are many much more important things to consider.

If only numbers reflected what some manufacturers try to make it seem they reflect. Drawing the conclusions you are trying to from numbers is like looking at the gas mileage of two cars and wanting to determine which is safer in a crash.

Wattage is different than sound quality, which in itself is very subjective.
