I don't recall the theatrical release, but was this very prevalent, Aaron? I don't recall much negative sentiment towards the Civil War (or WWII) among the anti-war crowd. As for the title, any frustration would have to stem from a too literal and narrow-minded evaluation of the title. That said, I recognize there is pretty vast gulf between anti-war and pacifism. I have trouble seeing anti-war folks mad about the Civil War

My personal investment in the ends come from a sense of hopefulness, not necessarily sadness.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)Burying Shaw with his colored troops was intended to be an insult, to be shameful. Based on the events of the film, the actual emotional implication is quite the opposite. It is a strong truth, and the film handles it with visual dignity and grace. The "Glory" of the title is the choices the men make (regardless of color), and the glory of war (so to speak) is that it highlights what makes men both great and equal.
