Get ready for Nat "King" Cole SACDs from Analogue Productions - Page 2

Looks like 'St. Louis Blues' and 'Just One Of Those Things' have fallen back to 2011, according to AcousticSounds.com.

Yes, indeed the first two discs WERE released and are available NOW!  I have them both in my possession.

The Very Thought Of You

I remember when I used to buy an LP every day because they were only $2.97.

What's the deal with "The Nat King Cole Story"? My order says "back-ordered" and it's listed on the product page as a "pre-order". Is there a release date on this?

And it has now been pushed back to November 4.   (Like I need something else to buy in November...  ).

The way these dates keep moving out it looks like most of these NKC discs won't see the light of day until almost 2 years after they were initially announced.

I bought Love is The Thing from Chad at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest and it is really terrific.  They are really doing these right.

I own both Love is the Thing and The Very Thought of You on SACD.

They are both excellent albums. And the sound quality is great on SACD. Gives you a chill like he's in the room playing for you.

I love After Midnight, but don't neglect his other albums. They are very different, but just as good imho.

Yes.  I have Love is the Thing.  Wonderful sound.

Amazon now has some of these Nat Cole SACDs listed for $23.10 pre-orders (March 8!).

I just pulled the trigger on After Midnight.  Woo hoo!  Happy birthday to me!  Without a doubt...one of my favorite jazz albums of all time!  Nat, Sweets Edison, Lee Young, Stuff Smith...1956.  Perfection.

Where Did Everyone Go is the same price.

Just ordered After Midnight and Where Did Everyone Go?

Thanks Mike!  :)

You're welcome, Lee!

My copy of After Midnight arrived yesterday and as today was my birthday...I spun it up as a present to myself!

I couldn't be happier.  It sounds great.  There are tracks that were not on the original LP release.  The packaging is first-rate (it comes very close to duplicating the original Capitol artwork--front and back).  And there are extremely comprehensive liner notes on the recording by Chris Hall and Ralph J. Gleason...further adding to my listening pleasure.

But the music...some of the finest jazz ever recorded...IMHO...soars.

I told my wife (who really doesn't "get" the distinction between CD & SACD or DVD & Blu-ray) that when I played this disc it might just sound like the musicians are sitting in our living room.  I was right about that.  It makes me wish I had better speakers!

Hmm...Nat in SACD sort of snuck up on me. I just ordered Love is the Thing as a tryout.

Steve:

I found this thread on the many delays of the NKC discs.  Apparently there is a problem at the pressing plant part of the process.  From the most recent poster in that thread:

Likely a supply chain management issue. Only a couple of SACD plants in the world means the release dates slip frequently.

Got my copy of NKC story last week.
The good: Sounds incredible, feels like Nat is in your room.
The bad: a bit pricey and for the amount paid they could have packaged better.

I agree with the quality of the Nat King Cole Story. After SHM SACDs from Japan, I don't find the disc pricey at all.cool.gif

I have been ogling the track listing for The NKC Story now for the past couple of days at the Acoustic Sounds store online.

Oh...but that price.

I wonder if it will be showing up on amazon at a reduced rate like some of the others did?!?

I ended up picking up The Nat King Cole Story on Amazon a few months ago and had it wrapped under the Christmas tree.

I paid more for it than I would normally pay for a piece of software....but mmmmmmmmmmmm.

This is what music is supposed to sound like.

I don't regret the purchase (or pricepoint) one bit.

I can only imagine if Steve Hoffman could be given Sinatra's Capitol sessions to remaster and release on SACD...

I ordered two just to see what they were like and once I heard them ordered the rest of the collection. My jaw hit the floor the when I sampled my first track on THE NAT KING COLE STORY.
