Posted on his own forum by Steve Hoffman about 2 hours ago....

So, we've done the following for SACD three channel/two channel hybrids and 45 RPM vinyl:

1956, After Midnight (mono with 6 bonus tracks)
1956, Love Is The Thing (with complete original "Closed miked" mono mixes as bonus tracks on the SACD version)
1957, Just One Of Those Things (with YOU'LL NEVER KNOW bonus track)
1958, Songs From "St. Louis Blues"
1958, The Very Thought Of You (with bonus tracks DON'T BLAME ME, THERE IS NO GREATER LOVE)
1962, Where Did Everyone Go? (with bonus tracks HAPPY NEW YEAR and A FAREWELL TO ARMS)
1961, The Nat "King" Cole Story, three-volume set (36 songs with bonus tracks RAMBLIN' ROSE and THOSE LAZY-CRAZY-HAZY DAYS OF SUMMER, making 38 songs in all)

Have these been released yet?

Thanks, Blair.

Wooo!  They're steep.

I'd pick some up, but they're way too pricey.

It's bad enough there's not many quality non-classical SACDs getting released, but when there is - you gotta pay through the nose.  No thanks, I can better spend my money elsewhere.

Man...I'd love a copy of that After Midnight disc (and a bunch of others).

But, Marc's right.  They're just too much.
Apparently, that is the general consensus.  It appears they will never be released.
Where did you get your info from, Keith?  They still have release dates at AcousticSounds.com.

I just dropped an amount (more than I thought I'd ever spend) on an older DVD-A and was actually thinking that I might treat myself to one or two of these--even with the high price tags.  The potential for these is through the roof.

Mike,

I'm not familiar with the date TBA.  Can you  translate that into a month or perhaps a year?
About 5 years ago, Rhino announced they would be releasing a DVD-A of Close To The Edge by Yes.  About a year later, that announcement disappeared.

I love both SACD and DVD-A, but let's face it- the market for those is extremely limited at this point.

HERE'S the site I was talking about.  No  TBA there.

They still list dates of June 14, July 12, August 9 for some of the Cole SACDs.

Some of the Vinyl releases have dates of May 10.  Maybe that'll be an indicator if the SACDs are coming, too.

Thanks Mike.  I'll be checking this out come June 14th to see if it really happens.

Now that The Very Thought Of You has shipped, has anyone here received their copy yet?

And, according to Acoustic Sounds, now that pressing issues have been worked out (ie production was moved to Austria) the release dates currently being touted are pretty accurate.

Wow.  You want to get excited over something (almost enough to get me to drop $35 on an SACD!  Almost.)?!?

Read THESE notes of the re-mastering sessions written by Michael Fremer and posted at acousticsounds.com.

They also posted photos of the sessions.  Imagine getting a chance to handle the original session tape from the Cole sessions?!?

Like I posted awhile ago.  It's the After Midnight disc I'm jonesing for.  I could very likely drop $35 on that disc.

Did anyone drop 35.00 on one of these?  If so, were they worthwhile?

OK, I see now the daye has been pushed back to September 10, 2010.  Any bets on this?

Keith:  I'm not seeing any of these releases with a September 10, 2010 date.

The Very Thought of You has already been released.  Others are coming soon (July & August).

Pre-ordered NKC Story....

$70 + for a 2 SACD set.

I hope the reviews are positive or I'll have no problem canceling this order.

HERE's one review of The Very Thought of You.

The guy makes me want to buy that disc NOW.

I was unaware--until I was checking around on the Acoustic Sounds site just now--that Miles Davis' Someday My Prince Will Come LP is headed to SACD on June 28--TOMORROW!

OK- I read one review where the guy hates the album primarily because it is too "easy listening" and the strings are just too syrupy.  I tend to prefer Nat's simpler Jazz arrangements myself.  Are any of these upcoming releases in that vein?  I know most of Nat's writing is enjoyable, but Gordon Jenkins can be way too sweet.

Looking forward to hearing Nat's voice at its most realistic.

Keith:

I agree completely...which is why I've been saying that it's the "After Midnight" disc for me.  It's Nat, his voice and piano and some of the best side men in the business.  You won't be disappointed.  To see what I'm talking about, listen to some snippets on amazon.com.

I've been watching the prices of Digital Compact Classics' NKC gold CD prices at Amazon Marketplace for a long time.  A couple hundred for new; around $100 for used. Fairly steady over a few years now.

When compared to that, Hoffman's participation in SA-CD production after what appear to be significant restoration efforts to create releases that a couple years ago many of us would not have thought possible make these $35 and $65 prices seem more palatable.

I just Wish Listed The Nat King Cole Story and will find a way to work it into the always distended media budget--sell more DVDs, forgo a few BDs.

Crap!  They've changed the release date on After Midnight to October 4.    The rest, quoted above, are the same date.

Maybe I'll dip my toe in the water with a purchase of Just One of Those Things later this month.  I love me some NKC and Billy May.  Plus, I love the fact they are giving us both the stereo and mono mixes on these discs.

So has anyone here actually physically seen ANY of these discs?  I'm becoming suspicious when I see the release date pushed back numerous times.
