Actually, Cuban only wanted HDNet to go to the basic tier, HDNet Movies would have stayed on the premium tier. And the new contract called for a cut in the per-subsciber fee Time Warner pays (a 75% cut IIRC). I don't think that's greedy at all. He wanted more viewers and, in exchange, he offered to charge less per subscriber. Seems like that would have been a concession by both sides.

With the recent launch of TCM HD, there isn't really much of a need for HDNet Movies and I expect it will fade into obscurity like VOOM.
Except that TCM HD isn't even available on any cable/satellite systems yet (is it?) and we don't know if they'll actually air moives in true HD or if they'll just be stretched, a la many other Time Warner-owned HD channels (TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, any others?).

Time Warner sucks.

Im still waiting for TW to catch up to my G/F cable choices from 4 years ago!!!

Monsters HD, KungFuHD,Rave,etc

I watched HDNet all the time.

I really wish we could get more companies out there with more choices.

Well, we moved to our new digs back in manhattan, hooked TWC up again, we asked if we could take our DVR box with us from Queens, they said no problem. They guy comes to "install our service" and goes into a whole, "oh, that box won't work here in manhattan" which is utter nonsense but it was the day of the move, we were crazy and I was out. So he hooks up a different box, then told my wife that our current cable modem wouldn't work with the internet here, (also BS I thought) and he dragged out his installation appt. to 2 hours and racked up the charges. Later that night I hooked up the old box from Queens and after rebooting and updating it's firmware, (automatically) it worked just FINE. grrr..... The old modem? Fine too.

We then found out that our new bldg. was wired for FIOS and without a moment's hesitation we booked them to come in. When the guy got here he went into the junction in the hallway for all the apartments, (BRAND NEW building, pre-wired for cable and fios) and he discovered that the fios line to our (and ONLY our) apartment had been cut. So he had to go back to his van to get a splicing thing. He told me later that that has been happening and if it happens twice in a building they send an inverstigator. If true, and I did believe this guy, that's pretty screwed up on that TWC installer's part IMHO.

TWC has had a virtual complete monopoly on most of mahattan and a lot of NYC for decades and they are not happy with FIOS making inroads. I have used them because I had no choice in the past and always resented them for many different things over the years. Their price increases were always higher than inflation, crappy customer service, (I lived in an old brownstone type building and they ran the cables down from the roof, OUTSIDE the building. They literally hung loosely down the side. Whenever there was very windy weather, there was a TON of interference. This was with analog. When I switched to digital, the picture would just freeze up constantly. I complained numerous times and they would always send a completely clueless technician who didn't understand and never fixed the problem.)

And the PQ on the standard def channels got worse and worse over the years. Some channels were almost unwatchable with the heavy compression.

The PQ of FIOS IMHO looks MUCH better. And... drumroll....   I GOT HDNET and HDNET MOVIES back!!!!!!! Woohoo!!!!

See ya, TWC. Good riddance.

TWC seems to have dropped more channels and my bill is astronomical.

Ive dropped TWC for Direct TV, which is getting installed on Aug10.

Less money, going from 38 HD channels, most of which I never watch,up to 130.

Im DONE with TWC.

Yep, our bill was like $65.00, then extra for the DVR and we didn't even have any premium channels.
