Yamaha Rx-V665 shuts off with loud gunfire sound effects?

Hello,
Weird and the first time this has happened. I'm watching a Non-blu-ray DVD of Tom Cruise's Valkyrie, and in the beginning sequence when he's walking away from the general, then they get attacked...I heard about three or four loud booms from some guns, which completely shut off my receiver. What causes that? I turned it back on and this happened two more times in a few loud sequences. The AVR audio mode was in Dolby PLIIx at the time.

Did you have the volume cranked up pretty high? Do you have your speakers set to "Small" and the crossover set to 80 or higher? It looks like your receiver is pulling too much current and is going into self-protect mode. The usual response to this type of problem is to up the crossover on your receiver a bit like from 80hz to 100hz or more and see if that helps.

Or check the wiring from the receiver to the individual speakers and make sure there are no short-circuit conditions. Also, check the speakers one by one with the same loud scene (and volume level) from the movie and see if any of them trip the receiver into self-protect mode.

Damn, those Second Amendment Haters have already wormed their way into Yamaha factories. It a Left Wing Liberal conspiracy I tell you.

Otherwise I agree with the above 2 posts.

As Gene alluded to, the most common cause of this is having the front (or other) speakers set to "Large". Set them all to "Small". If that doesn't fix it, raise the crossover frequency. In any case, it doesn't hurt to give the wires a look to make sure no stray wire strands are touching.

Hi, I am having a similar problem, but instead of occurring with a movie, it is happening when i am playing PS3 "Call of Duty Black Ops" (using HDMI), so it is pretty difficult to have the scenario when this shutting off is happening. This have not happened with movies, or even other games to this date.Appears to be at random. The problem doesn´t occurr when playing the game with low volume.(e.g: -27dB ). Also I noticed the AV is not hot, and if I change the game or play a movie right after the problem had just happened, it won´t occurr, so I think this is not due to temperature.

I have checked the speakers and the wiring looks good to me, so it feels like the problem being some sort of setting. As I am not very skilled in this matter, could you help me with detailed instructions of how to check if the speakers are set to "large" or "small", etc. or how to raise the crossover frequency? A technician installed the whole system and he used the YPAO mic to ajust the parameters (auto set up),
