In some areas they have better reception than AT&T. That was not my experience as a Verizon customer, but I left them many years ago. AT&T definitely has problems in NYC, SF & Chicago. But LTE will be done more or less from scratch -- so AT&T has a golden opportunity to catch up.

Re: Gruber's predictions for WWDC, place yours!

Gruber's track record as of late as been pretty good, so I wouldn't presume to bet against him. 32GB, faster processor, better camera, video, improved battery life... these all seem like done deals at this point. Last year's model wasn't enough to entice me off of my original iPhone, but if the rumored specs pan out I'm upgrading this year for sure, on Day 1 if I can get one.

As Gruber also pointed out, what seems more interesting at this point is Snow Leopard. How will Apple market it? What will be the price point? It looks like SL will be going head-to-head against Win 7 this fall. Apple got a gift with Vista, but Win 7 is going to be a formidable competitor. I think SL is going to be the REAL story coming out of WWDC.

Exactly why I'm not signing a two year contract for a MiFi...

This is what I'm most excited about. As much as I am loathe to admit it, MS has hit it out of the park with Win 7. It still is going to be a security nightmare and I will still have bad dreams about adminisitering my parents Win 7 boxes, from a feature and UI perspective it's not bad at all. They have effectively caught up nicely there. Now Apple has to change the game again today, I am hoping for something totally out of left field here.

A good start would be a 'MacApp' store. And BluRay support. =)

As am I.

We may actually get the new phone as soon as today. The online Apple Store is down, there are reports of extended hours for B&M Apple Store employees this week, and the iPhone 3G demo units are said to be being pulled this morning.

AppleInsider is also reporting an indication that there may be price cuts coming for the entire line of Apple notebooks.

23 minutes to go. Engadget live feed, here I come.

Bertrands up for Software

OSX most successful Apple Software ever.

Against vista which stinks. "Trying to get out of it with Windows 7 but you have to deal with DLLs, the registry, disk defragmenter (no user should ever have to do that, Serlet says)"

Snow Leopard built on top of Leopards huge gains. Adding Refinements, Technologies (Blu?) and Exchange Support

Refinements: Finder, Dock, Installer is 45% faster.

Snow Leopard is 6GB smaller than leopard!

Major 'snappy' imprvements

Character recognition on trackpad, faster mail.

Safari 4 outta beta, ships today. Crash resistant, ignores plugin crashes!

Consumer surveys rate them highest for network coverage and customer support.

As for smartphones being a small market: companies don't look lightly on losing the battle for the high-end customers. That's the highest profit group. Lose that, and you're a commodities seller, competing to sell cheap stuff cheapest.

And while small now, it's only going to get bigger. Presumably, there's an advantage in capturing that market now to own it when it's huge.

I did OK

(Right: so expensive, no one can afford it )I predict Tethering will be an expensive AT&T option.

(Unknown)I predict that Verizon is getting worried as the only carrier without a consumer-friendly "smartphone".

(Wrong) It's all about the universal remote controls...

Re: Gruber's predictions for WWDC, place yours!

-Almost TOTAL snoozefest from a consumer point of view but lots Devs will dig
Hmmm, the iPhone delivered. The MBP updates were nice. No BluRay and no surprises, everything was pre-leaked. I'm going to call this RIGHT.

-iPhone RAM, CPU, Storage bumps snoozer,
RIGHT

-intro of external devices through dock is the big 'wow' (think keyboards).
WRONG, Repeat of the 3.0 intro blood monitor (tho to be fair the TomTom thing looks neat but not new)

-No iPhone Mini and no other phone carriers like Verizon.
RIGHT

-Tethering however gets official and destroys the market the MiFi had to itself for 2 weeks.
RIGHT if you don't use AT&T =(

Apple TV not even mentioned
RIGHT

-No tablet
RIGHT

-no consumer refreshes but Mac Pro will get a 16 processor build to shake things up with Snow Leopard
WRONG, MBP got the love

-Snow Leopard features are 75% of the talk with only 'wow' being UI improvements but a lot for devs to like under the hood.
WRONG, mostly repeats of the 3.0 show

-Refresh to Final Cut studio which makes the pro apps a lot more like the changes to iMovie. BluRay Authoring gets embraced. Blu BTO option for Mac Pro ONLY.
WRONG totally

-iLife '09 free add on refresh includes update to iDVD which finally allows BluRay playback but not recording, external drives only supported now for consumer line. (If I keep predicting it eventually I'll be right!)
WRONG TOTALLY

6 Right 5 Wrong =)
