Glee - Page 5

I'm so glad that people are enjoying this show. People at work are talking about it (members and employees) and I even caught someone doing the single ladies dance in the store. LOL!

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Glee, Season One, Vol. One: Road to Sectionals
Glee: The Complete First Season [Blu-ray]

Off the top of my head, the only exception I can think of is Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, because he refused to go into the studio. (They hid the microphone in the knot of his neck tie)

The only difference is that the demanding production schedule of a TV show like Glee doesn't allow the luxury of filming until the sync is absolutely nailed. What they do accomplish is remarkable for television. And since they are performing to their own voices, it's not like we have a Milli Vanilli situation.

Not to detract from this thread, great show and great comments...

I believe I saw an interview with Barbra Streisand (I think Actor's Studio) where she talked about singing live to one of the final songs in Funny Girl. Said she couldn't get the emotion by lip synching and needed to truly sing the song, so there are a few exceptions to things, but definitely pretty rare, especially things with a lot of choreography.

Yep. This is now my must see show. It is well written, well acted, well produced and on top of that we get some fantastic musical numbers. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that this done by the same guy that did Nip/Tuck.

Actually it was an extra button on his sweater vest.

Enjoyed tonight's show; while the Cabaret song didn't do anything for me per se, the intermixed performances were marvelous. They said everything about the characters: the experienced and skilled April and the young, bright-eyed Rachel.

However, I thought the big performance violated the emotional integrity of the show. A detail: back in E2 or E3, New Directions was given a strict list of songs to perform, as fallout from the "Push It" performance. That's clearly been forgotten. More than that, it seemed parents who were upset over "Push It" would not be keen on seeing April Rhodes taking lead, especially in such a sexual way, with the Glee club. It didn't feel right to me. As great as the performances were, this broke my suspension of disbelief.

I watch with my wife, but she's not as enamored as I am. She though the premiere was spectacular and has been downhill ever since. She tolerated this episode, but found the situation of April Rhodes's character completely preposterous.

Ok, those comments aside, this was my second favorite episode so far. I may have to buy a couple more songs from iTunes :)

A glee club question. Do high school glee clubs normally have so much choreography in their musical numbers? For some reason I always though they were more singing oriented, more like a chorus. Disclaimer, I graduated form high school in 1955 so things might have progressed since then.

It's Show Choir, so the performances incorporate dancing and movement with the singing.  The Wiki article cites the 60's as the beginning, so I guess you missed the boat.  I never heard of it because I grew up on the East Coast, and it seems to be a midwestern thing.  Show Choir figured into the plot of The Middle's pilot episode, and that takes place in Indiana.

I saw nothing like this growing up in Indiana. :) But I was a band geek, and the bigger schools might have had such glee clubs.

Loved seeing Kristen Chenoweth. Wow.
Also enjoyed the rendition of Maybe This time from Cabaret.

Cabaret is one of my favorite musicals and Kristin/Lea's version of "Maybe Some Time" just blew me away.

Oh-oh Oooooh, oh-oh Oooh, oh-oh.

I also enjoyed Krisin Chenoweth's performance of Last Name. If that song is supposed to be Country, it must be some kind of Shania Twain country as it sounds like a rock song to me. Not that I'm complaining.

Show choir may primarily be a Midwest thing, but they do exist here in the South.  Now that I think about it, we did have (a not very good) one in high school back in the '80s.  Actually our local Fox affililate is using Glee to promote the choirs in the area.

But when I think of show choir, the first thing that comes to mind is MST3K's send-up of them in The Skydivers

We had a great show choir back in the early 80s. Yes, in the South.

Lea Michele was great on Letterman last night. It's too bad she didn't get a chance to perform though.

She looked lovely. Her hair was fabulous.
OH MY GOD!  She was abso-freaking-lutely GORGEOUS!  Just gobsmackingly HOT!

Unfortunately, her personality was a cross between a librarian and a beauty pageant contestant.  Equal parts prim & phony.  From now on, I'll stay away from the interviews.

I had a friend who was a huge L&O fan back in the day and in love with Jill Hennessey at the time.  After seeing her on a talk show, she was so annoying he just stopped liking her.

Does anyone know if Hanson thinks Lea is good-looking?  :)

If you read between the lines, you could possibly interpret it that way.

I don't enjoy the Terri scenes, and there was too much of her in this episode, but the boys and girls on their respective uppers-propelled performance were hilarious, unfortunately, that was only 8 minutes of the episode's running time this time around.

Looking forward to next week, though.

Thing was, for the boys, their performance seemed to be to be actually very good, enjoyable.. but when the girls tried, it was so "over the top" it was pretty weird, it wasn't remotely as good.  I was kind of surprised by that whole bit, because I figured he'd pick up on it.

I knew instantly someone was going to get busted for a meth lab when they were sent for 36 boxes of drugs...

All the cards are on the table now. (Well, except for the baby bombshell.) I agree with you Matt, the boys' performance was much better than the girls' performance.

Poor Harry Bamboo.

Terri is simultaneously so stupid and "evil" that it takes me out of the show.
I love the Terri character.  I think she's great.
Loved the It's My Life / Confession song. Very fun.

Terri is horrible. But she makes for good TV. And she's no more insane / unbelievable than Sue, Cheerios coach.

(But in the back of mind is the worry that it's becoming Boston Public with 8 minutes of song and dance.)

This is what she was wearing on Letterman.  What -- I'm made of metal?

More pics here.

Great show. I was laughing so hard when the kids were all hopped up on over the counter meds! Too funny! I love the wife. She brings a much needed piece to the show. It's interesting that they outed the little crush so soon.

The whole proposal/marriage thing just made me sad. What is the point of being married if you aren't even together? She is an odd duck, but her strange little ways are what make her character so interesting I suppose.

They're over the counter. FDA approved. They're safe.

I don't want to give a lot of thought to it, but maybe the problem is that Terri actually is kind of believable. There are plenty of morons out there. (Maybe I watch too much cable news.) I don't need to see garden-variety despicable human beings like her on my "entertainment" shows too. In contrast, Sue is clearly a cartoon.
