Hey all, hope im posting correctly and all.. i've been attempting to build a sub woofer enclosure to produce enough bass for a 40,000 sq ft recreation area. The kids that come here for horse camp like to have movie nights and i kinda wanted it to have that full bass you get at a real movie theater..I have a few ideas on where to put it but i just wonder if that big of an area would mean i need bigger ports or does that only depend on the speaker...also would i need a bigger box than usual? i was hoping to do it with 4 12 inch subs or 4 15 inch subs...thanx for the use of this forum :-D......oh and i might want to have two boxes and put two subs in each so i can place them at two angles toward the bleachers....thnx again

Re: determine size of ports/slots and size of box for a sub in huge area please?
If this is outside, then there is no possible way to get movie theater quality bass unless you use something like the Matterhorn.I did read a thread a few years ago where a guy used four of these for his army base in Kuwait. When these are in stock, they run about $800 each.
What you want to do for a place this large is sacrifice the low bass for SPL. This means tuning the enclosures to a higher frequency and employing a higher subsonic filter than what would normally be used in home theaters. You should also look at PA/concert subs since the sensitivity on them would be much higher.
Port size, port length and enclosure size all work together to tune a sub. All of this is dependent on your driver and the goals of your project.
What is your budget for everything (drivers, enclosure, amp(s), etc.)?
