Re: Successful Movies based on Tv Shows.

I guess it would depend on the definition of a successful movie but here's a couple:

Addams Family
Bewitched
Charlie's Angels
The Flintstones
Get Smart
Lost in Space
Mission:Impossible
Police Squad (Naked Gun movies)
Serenity (based on Firefly)
Untouchables
Wild Wild West

Re: Successful Movies based on Tv Shows.

Here's some even crummier movies based on tv shows:

The Avengers (Steed & Emma that is, not the upcoming Marvel super-heroes characters)
The Beverly Hillbillies
The Brady Bunch Movie & A Very Brady Sequel
The Fugitive (actually it's not too bad)
Scooby Doo and sequel

"Land of the Lost" came out last week, and by all accounts was a successful movie.

"The Incredible Hulk" movies were not based on the tv show--they were based on the comic book which is 15 years older than the tv show.

Incredible Hulk is based on the comic book which preceded the TV show (by about 15 years). Oops. Edited: I missed Ethan's comments which said the exact same thing.

I'll also add another "crummy" movie, based on a TV show: The Honeymooners

Doesn't really belong on that list. It's generally considered a good film, is it not?

It was a TV show first in the 1970's. There was a remake TV series in the 1990's, but this will be the first feature film (released June 5).

Re: Successful Movies based on Tv Shows.

As someone said, "successful" could have different meanings. But both House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows (based on the ABC soap opera Dark Shadows) were successful in the sense that they were profitable for MGM.
