Projectors Room Size, LCD Plasma oh migh!

Hi

I just measured from one wall to the other and it's 16 1/2 feet. Would a projector work in this setup? How big should the screen be? Where would be the best place to go for more information on this. I am refinishing the basement and need to know what I have to rough in before I finish it. I was looking at plasma and lcd, but I really want the home cinema experience and not the home theater experience. Any help someone can give me would be great.

Thanks

Jason

I'm assuming that the 16.5' is the length of the room, not the width? You will want to read up on "throw distance" which is a term describing how far back from the screen the LENS of the PJ needs to be placed in order to fill a screen of a certain size. Note that I said lens because there is a lot of PJ behind that distance (i.e. you'll need an extra 2' or so to fit the PJ). The shape of your screen is also important when calculating throw (16:9 aspect ratio, 4:3 aspect ratio, 2.35:1, etc.). You'll need to pick out a screen shape, PJ, and then play with the calculator to determine what is possible in your room.

A projector will definitely work. Mine is in a room that's 12' X 17' and my screen is 106" diagonal. I sit about 15' away from the screen with a 720p projector. The screen size is determined by your seating distance from screen, and the resolution of projector. 2 great sites to learn about projectors and read reviews are Projectorreviews.com and Projectorcentral.com.
