Strange noise from new HTiB

Hi, I recently bought a Panasonic SC-HT56. For a few weeks I would get some static from all speakers, tested for ground loop problems (unplugged every questionable item in the house but the receiver and removed all connections to it) and it remained, even with nothing else turned on.
Last night, though, even with the TV and BD turned off and the HTiB unit muted, I get a repeating low to high pitched wailing - it almost sounds like when they try to tune in radio frequencies in WWII. Again I tried removing all connections to the receiver but no change.
Does this sound like a defective product or is there anything I can do about it? I am confident I hooked everything up correctly and used only the parts that came with it.
Thanks a lot! This is first theater sytem I have had.

Re: Strange noise from new HTiB

How long did the sound last? Was it continuous, or did it seem to stop and start? Did you happen to get a cell phone call shortly after the noise stopped?

As discussed in another thread, cell phone-to-tower "handshakes" can cause even shielded speakers (like computer speakers) to make funny noises for no apparent reason. I think some wireless telephone systems can do the same thing. Could either of these things be your problem?

Regards,

Joe

Re: Strange noise from new HTiB

Thanks for the reply. It was continuous and completely unlistenable last night... before that and since I had gotten it about a month ago there had been some low level deep growling all the time, but usually only in the center and rear speakers instead of all of the speakers.
I just tried again and not instead of the old time radio type sounds I get a really high pitched squealing.
Since it keeps changing tone I would think you could be on to something about the cell phone tower interference. I do have one near my home, but the sound doesn't change when I use my phone. I'd hate to be out the $ I paid for it not knowing my location would be an issue.
