classic Cartoons - 1972-1976

I grew up with saturday morning cartoons including Jeannie, Jabberjaw, Speed Buggy, etc. I like to see more of these cartoons reach to dvd along with New Adventures of Gilligans. It is sad that the old cartoons are better than anything produced today on the cartoon network.

I also like Wait till the Father gets Home. It was another classic tv show. I have the first season on dvd.

If someone came out with Box Sets of Hot Wheels and Skyhawks I'd buy them in a heartbeat!

Recently I found a disk with a handfull of episodes from both Shows. Seeing these shows 30 years after some do-gooder group had them yanked off the air was a nice little "Blast from the Past"!

Good luck finding Jeannie on dvd anytime soon--SONY owns the rights to that one, (because they own the rights to the Jeannie character, not Warners, which owns the bulk of the HB characters).

My point being, we all know how much Sony loooooooves putting out classic tv on dvd.

Warners, I wish, should put out more HB shows, but they've noticeably slowed down their releases. They seem to have so far only released the most popular, marketable characters that are still remembered today. The second-tier shows probably won't have much luck.

the last HB show of any value was Josie and the Pussycats. That is why I think 1960s and 1970s release coming up May 26, 2009 all has to do with them test the waters for other cartoons. I have pre-order my volumes, because it has some classic shows. It takes me back to my youth in the 1970s. Kids today have no cartoons to watch.

Isn't that the truth! They don't even have Saturday Mornings to look forward to. Nothing but News, News, News. Fortunately we have these shows that we can pass on to our kids, showing them what things were like when we were kids. Here's My List of shows I'd like to see released on DVD.

Hot Wheels (1969)

Sky Hawks

The Adventures of Gulliver

The Adventures of Huck Finn

Fantastic 4 (1967)

Fantastic Voyage

Lassie's Rescue Rangers

Run Joe Run

Westwind

Barrier Reef

These were the Days

That's not fair; kids have far more options today than we did. It's all right that they want their own generations' media; not ours. And Spongebob and etc. are great or greater cartoons than the stuff I used to watch in the early 70s.

My only wish is for WB to put out the super-hero series that they never got around to: Herculoids, Sinbad Jr. and so on. And also the Banana Splits. If they can't restore it properly, I can't figure out why, because the series looked fine in syndication just a decade ago.

Exactly. I don't like the kids' cartoons made today but they aren't made for me- they're made for kids.

Re: classic Cartoons - 1972-1976

while they have more options, those options aren't special to Saturday morning. Spongebob runs all week long. Nothing is "if you don't wake up early on Saturday, you're going to miss out on it." Not that the wouldn't set the DVR. But the case is that by the time network kid programming starts - any good parent has already laid out the "you're not going to sit in front of the TV in your pajamas all day" spiel and is dragging the kid outside.

Plus today's cartoons have to have educational content. Who wants that? Too many cartoon characters have dead end jobs nowadays. I don't want to be reminded of career choices while eating my bowl of Cap'n Crunch.

a few of my pals have picked up the complete cartoon DVD packages and run them for the kids on Saturday mornings.

Yeah The Banana Splits. I never saw an episode cause never shown in Canada. I think I caught something in stores about Banana's in Pajamas. But someone said Im way off.

Im curious to know more on this. Im anxious now on getting 60's and 70's cartoons. I so far only have The Scooby Doo sets of Where are you. And only the old versions. The new ones were awful.

Rodrick, The Banana Splits were rerun after school constantly in Canada until at least 1973, and I'm going to guess much later. Every kid knew them and they were on cereal boxes. We had the hand puppets and the figurines from cereal. I saw the show so many times, I can hear the theme for the Splits, Huck Finn, and Danger Island in my head today (though they are now on Youtube, as is almost any theme ever).

Banana Splits is currently being shown on teletoon retro in Canada. There is another show that I notice the other day that was similar to Banana Splits called Skatebirds.

The 70s produced some excellent cartoons, even though the quality at times was poor. However, that was different time when as kid you look forward to saturday morning cartoons from 8 till noon. In late 80s they move cartoons throughout the weekend and eliminate the need for one day to watch cartoons.

Re: classic Cartoons - 1972-1976

I am a huge fan of 70's stuff. I have tons of the old cartoons on tape, and also I have 2 episodes of Banana Splits on tape. Yes They were on tv here.
