Will Ideal-Lume help in my configuration?

Hello. My 46" Sony almost perfectly fits in the TV "nook" in my Entertainment Wall Unit. I have only 0.5" clearance right/left, 1.25" top, and 2" bottom. Will Ideal-Lume lighting be of any benefit to my viewing experience in this set-up?

Re: Will Ideal-Lume help in my configuration?

greetings

back light reduces eye fatigue. Improves black levels.

If there is no light there ... then nothing improves black levels or reduces eye fatigue for you ... short of turning on room lights and that will change the way you perceive colors.

Thanks Michael. Do you know if the dimensions of the "spaces" I had surrounding my TV would benefit Ideal-Lume lighting; ultimately reducing the eye fatigue and improving black levels. Or, would I need more "space" surrounding my TV to get the full effects of Ideal-Lume lighting. I hope I'm making sense.

Re: Will Ideal-Lume help in my configuration?

The spaces you describe around the edges of the TV won't allow sufficient light to be visible for good bias lighting. Depending on the construction of your wall unit, and how much it occupies your field of view while watching TV, some ambient light behind the unit on the wall (above and/or along side) may be beneficial. Some users of bias lighting enjoy the color correct illumination in the room while viewing. Typical residential lighting is quite yellowish in spectrum. Placing a 6500K light behind the cabinet, so that it still washes the wall behind, above, and/or around it, can provide some of the benefits of the technique. Any ambient light in the room that originates from in front of the screen usually contaminates the image to some degree.

Take a look at the NIST graphics that depict the various types of screen reflections in this technical document: CinemaQuestv2.0 . Even when a bright image is on the screen, screen reflections are still present. That's one reason why many people know intuitively that their TV looks better when they view it in the dark.
