Re: Designing Women Season 2 Coming Soon

Well, I'm thrilled that there will be a second season. However, I'm not sure either of the first 2 releases will sell very much. Even the devoted fans at this forum are basically ignoring these upcoming sets. That does not bode well for sales. I'm quite nervous this will turn into another flop release the same way that Murphy Brown did. Intelligent, adult sitcoms have a really hard time selling on DVD.

With that said, the second season of Designing Women is arguably its best. It truly hit its stride and was able to combine outrageous comedy with serious social issues. The show was still fresh and had not yet begun to rely too heavily on the main characters various "quirks".

There's a lot of music in this season which I hope will be intact. Perhaps the reason the show was originally announced for DVD and then disappeared from the schedule is because they were trying to clear music rights for several seasons at once.

Re: Designing Women Season 2 Coming Soon

I wouldn't base sales on the amount of responses listed on this message board. The show has a strong fan base and I would bet that pre-orders for Season 1 have been good. Sure it isn't going to sell like a season of LOST.

I think it is very smart to release some seasons close together like they are doing. So many people are sick of starting a show and not getting the final seasons, so this is a good sign.

Re: Designing Women Season 2 Coming Soon

You're making it sound like online message forums make up 100% of the sales. I hate to disappoint you but online sales make up for less than 30% of total sales. Physical purchases in B&M stores make up for greater than 60% of sales.

I know I'll be buying both sets.

I'd say in general I'd say you are dead on, but it varies widely by title/genre.

Designing Women is going to skew way to the side of B&M stores. It has an older audience and one that skews more female. Both of those demographics tend to buy more at stores. This will be a title that does well at Target and Wal-Mart, but not as much at Best Buy.

Stuff like Sci-Fi and horror skew more towards internet sales. Mainstream stuff may still be 50-70% B&M, but more obscure or cultish stuff can easily be 80% (or more) online.

Actually, titles like Designing Women, Golden Girls, Gilmore Girls tend to skew more toward the aged generation, men and women over 40. While I had grown up on Designing Women and Golden Girls, despite growing up on action and sci fi like Dukes of Hazzard, A-Team and Buck Rogers I had also grown attached to Gilmore Girls, my first intro to Gilmore Girls being with the DVD's.

Yeah. That's kind of why I said "an older audience" in my post...

And I'm not saying men won't buy it, but it will have a MUCH higher proportion of women buyers than most DVDs.

I'll buy the sets for myself, personally, but also for my mom. She loves that show.

Cover art is up, and that runtime of 480 minutes (22 minutes per episode) is enough to send chills up and down anyone's spine. I hope this is NOT official.

I e-mailed Tvshows on this running time and Gord stated usually the running times are incorrectly listed.

I wish when Shout and other companies issued these specs they do some checking into it first otherwise everyone is thinking syndicated. I doubt they would release Season 1 in the full version form but use cut episodes for season 2.

I hope SHOUT factory sends out a correction on this info.

Re: Designing Women Season 2 Coming Soon

Of all the seasons that definitely NEED to be uncut it's this one. It's perhaps the best season of the show consistently.

And so far, I think the cover art for these releases has been beautiful. Very classy which I assume will continue with any further releases. I'd like to see Anthony added to the cover art for later seasons, though.

SitcomsOnline.com posted their review of Season 2 for those interested.

Down near the bottom of the review it is noted that inside the package is a flyer stating Season 3 and 4 will be coming soon. Sounds like SHOUT Factory will be rolling these sets out on a regular turn around time. Hopefully Season 3 will be announced to be released before Christmas. :-)

And best of all, unlike last time, where only one song was replaced, this time around, every single original song is intact.

It seems like Sony has been paying attention to the masters they send to Shout!

A pity they couldn't do it on some of their in-house releases.

The first season was wonderfully done despite the missing music. Nearly everything about it was top-notch. I'm just hoping that future seasons will include some type of extras such as commentaries, bloopers, a documentary, etc.

Considering how long the show was delayed perhaps several of the seasons have been in the works for a while and that's why they maybe releasing them on such a quick schedule. I'd be thrilled if they could at least get through the end of the fifth season before the show jumped the ottoman. There are some funny moments from the last two seasons but the main life force of the series left with the departures of Jean & Delta.

The ultimate goal will hopefully be a complete series set. Maybe even with the one season of "Women Of The House" tacked on.

I found the Second Season at my local Best Buy Fri eve for 34.99 but I had them match the "walmart" price for 31.ish.

I watched the first two episodes and it looks on par with the first season. some instances I seemed to have to turn up the volume some in areas.

I actually picked up S1 for the BF's birthday tomorrow.  Out of all the shows he wants me to watch with him, this is one I'll definitely be A-OK with.  Good to know the release is basically top notch.
