I'm going to be setting up my HT stuff this weekend. I have a 7.2 receiver coming to me friday and a 5.1 speaker system right now. All bookshelf sized speakers. I attached a diagram of my room. Basically it's shoebox shaped with a mostly open back. I think the room is around 20x13. I would have normally done it with 2 speakers in the front, and 2 on either side of the sofa but the grandma that had the condo before decided she needed more closet space and installed 4 closets along the left hand wall. There's a long one about 6', then a small one that's 3', then 6, then 3. I don't want the sofa to be too far from the tv but because of the closets the only place I can really put the side speakers in between 2 closet doors, which is about a 5" space. Luckily the rear speakers are small.
However, what if I want to get the 7 speakers going? Where do I put the next pair? I can't put them behind me really. I can't have them coming out of the celling because hiding the wires will be too much work for me.
Is there any kind of "floor" bookshelf speaker that I can maybe place on the floor on either side of the sofa? or just behind it? or will that not sound right? Or what about 2 small rear speakers "stacked" on top of each other in the same spot a few feet apart, maybe 1 set aimed at the sofa and the other 2 straight across?
Or in a room like this am I better off with just 1 set of rear speakers? Any ideas?
