Hi, I am just venturing into Hometheater since buying my first home! I am thinking of buying the new Onkyo-SR607 receiver with its subwoofer. Since the area for the HT is relatively small, the local store recommended the Mirage nanosat 5.1 speakers. I will have to set this up in the living room with 8' ceiling, which is a long room (not wide) with living area, eat-in area and kitchen in a row. So the HT will be confined to the living room area. Not sure if my room set-up is ideal, but I have no choice there. Please let me know about these 5 small Mirage speakers and I wonder if there are better speakers out there which will not occupy tons of space. Right now, I am willing to spend what it takes to get a decent system since I always used to dream about one. The local store also recommended the Panasonic DMP-BD60K blu-ray player. So would appreciate your opinion on that too....Thanks!

The Onkyo 607, the speakers, and the Panasonic Blu-Ray are solid choices. Not sure what you mean by 'its subwoofer'. The 607 is just a receiver and does not include a sub. Now weather the small speakers will be adequate is something you will have to decide. IMO, you will not get the best sound from small sats in a big room. For a the sub, I suggest you look at SVS (http://www.svsound.com/index.cfm). While you are there, check out thier speaker selection as well.
Re: newbie to HT: Need help with speakers/blu ray
Sorry David. My mistake about the subwoofer. The subwoofer is actually the one that comes with the Mirage 5.1 system along with 5 satellite speakers. It does not have a dedicated central speaker, just 5 small speakers. I think I will go for slightly bigger/better speakers. I will check the website you mentioned in your reply. But does anybody else have any recommendations for speakers that go well with the Onkyo SR607 receiver. I do not mind spending some money in getting good quality speakers, since at the end of the day, the sound matters! Thanks..
