I'm trying to help my brother in law with the rebuild after his house burned down and I'm pre-wiring his surround with the equipment in a built in cabinet. The question i have is the max length on a non boosted hdmi cable i have a 30 ft cable i want to fish in the wall before the sheetrock goes up. I tried testing the cable with a dvd player with 1080p upconversion by hooking it up to my LCD but could not get a signal. No problem with component and composite hookups. The sales rep stated that it may have to be boosted but to try it out before running it in the wall. I've got maybe a week before sheetrock. I already have 3 rg6, 1 cat5e, and 1 16-4 speaker wire run to the tv plate on the wall over the mantle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: max length on hdmi cable
Monoprice has some 100ft cables. It could be an issue with your current cable, the source (not powerful enough) or the TV (can't decode the signal). You may need to test each piece of the puzzle by swapping it out before finding the cause of your problem.-Robert
Re: max length on hdmi cable
Thanks for the advice I haven't been able to get a straight answer about maximum cable length probably because of the different variables involved. My brother in-law will probably never go HD till it's the only thing on the market. I just want to cover all the bases while the wall is open. The sales rep I have at system depot said that I shouldn't need a booster till I got to 100ft depending on the equipment I was using.
