The Music Lovers
1. Is the disc in stereo?
2. Proper oar framing?
3. include the overture and intermission?

1. Yes, in Dolby 2/0 stereo.
2. Yes, film is in its oar 2.35:1.
3. I've seen the film several times theatrically and have never seen it presented with an overture or an intermission. The film is only a few minutes over two hours so an intermission seems unlikely, but if you have any info on this, I'd be interested.

I saw The Music Lovers in London way back when. I'm pretty sure it was the summer of 1969 and it was playing Roadshow. The overture consisted of part of one of Tchaikovsky's symphonies(Believe it was the 3rd movement of #6). There was indeed an intermission with an entra'cte though I don't recall which piece played. The sound was definitely more than 2.0 as the surrounds were full especially with the fireworks scene as well as the 1812 Overture. It was such a stunning showing that I went back a second time within 2 days...

Very interesting, Paul. I had never heard about this before. I don't know if the version you mention with an overture and intermission ever made it to US shores, but I didn't see the film upon its original release here. Maybe it was only for its original UK release? I have never seen any US print (or video transfer) that had an overture or intermission. And at least there's no difference in actual scenes missing from the film. Thanks for the info about this.

1969 is too early for the theatrical exhibition of The Music Lovers. It was released in 1971, I think.

The Music Lovers was 'supposedly' released in 1970. I saw it twice Roadshow in August/Sept 1969 London. Whether these were 'special showings or not I don't know. I have no idea if the film had 'officially' opened but it was shown with Overture, Intermission and a dynamic stereo track. It was the same length as it now stands except for the roadshow trappings...
