if the box terminal can fit two wires into each hookup then could i could run the amp off two channal then right? and when you say bridged that means running off two channals?

sorry i started thinking more running the sub off two channals then how would i wire the sub inside the box the sub will come wired at 1.5 ohms probally . i get that if i can fit two wires in each hook up on the outside of the box that i wouldnt need to buy a new bi-amp plate. but how would i wire it in the inside wouldnt i just leave the wiring how it came from the factory?

Fi Car Audio, Sound Solutions Audio, Sundown Audio, Creative Sound (Canada), Exodus Audio, Resonant Engineering, AE Speakers, Incriminator Audio, Stereo Integrity and Elemental Designs are all good examples of high quality speakers at a decent price. Some of these companies have different lines of speakers with different goals. Strictly SPL subs, SQL subs and SQ subs.

Correct. But the box you linked to has a single channel terminal. You would need to replace it with a dual channel terminal like I linked to earlier or you would need to add a second terminal.

No. It means combining both channels of the amp into a single channel. If you don't know the terminology I am using at least attempt to look it up. A Google search of 'bridged amp' only returns 1.6 milion hits.

If you use two terminals, each terminal is wired to each voice coil. If you use a single terminal with dual connections (like the one I linked to), you connect each set of binding posts to each voice coil.

If you are dead set on the JL sub, buy it and an amp. I'll help get things connected after all of your equipment is in. I've drawn pictures of the wiring diagrams. I've explained terminals. You aren't going to get it until you have the parts in hand to see how they connect.

I will continue to help if you want to use different equipment.

alright i got the amp today and the sub is coming tomorrow. thanks for all the help i decided to run it off one channal because 2 would probaly overpower the sub and over work the amp even more. thanks for all the great help but it looks like i am getting jl so i wont ask anymore questions.

i got it all hooked up and tried to upload pictures but the file is to big it seems like the sub is to stiff to be loud yet it owrks but only if i turn the volume up about 1/4 away from max and when i turn it all the way up[no speakers hooked up] my reciever shuts down even though it is not hot. i know the ep4000 isnt being overwoked because it isnt even hot. pm me your email if u want the pics thanks

i started running the amp on two channals and i flipped the wrong buttons on the back and it popped the breakers on the amp but it works and i got the right buttons set to the right position but then all the light in the house dimmed and the breaker of the house clicked off so i dont think my sub will get any louder without blowing the speaker. i decided tomorrow i am going to buy a 1/8'' to 1/4'' adapter and plug my ipod straight into the amp because i also have to buy a headphone splitter and run the jl off one side and the speakers off another because the only way i can get to her the jl is to turn my volume halfway which makes my speakers go way up so now i will be able to control the sub and the speakers. also when i had my reciever maxed out the breaker on that kept going off too. the sub seemed to gain a lot of volume to 55 -65 68 is max volume. i just think i will half to live with a pansy sub until i get a car because of the breaker?

If no speakers are connected to your receiver, it should not shut down no matter how loud you turn it up. What is the attenuator (the "volume" knobs) settings on the amp?

What are your amp's DIP switch settings?

Sounds like your house wiring can't handle a pro amp. I have 20amp circuits run to my room for my amp.

Your speaker won't blow. You aren't pushing it past the thermal rating and in a sealed box, you aren't getting near the mechanical limits.

Connecting the iPod to the sub amp will get you sound. But a full range signal through a sub will sound like crap.

I only know how rod send pics over email the reciever is turned at max with bass all the way up. I don't know how I would get more power though and I have the gain onthe amp at max.

The sub is running on a final impedence of 3 ohms is there a way that I could wire the sub down to 1.5 ohms. I don't understand why I have to turn my onkyo reciever to about 2/3 volume just to get cone movement. But the subs doubles it's loudness from 55 to max which is 68. So I don't know why that is happening. But if I figure out the problem won't the breaker pop off because I am using to much power? The switches on the amp are all to the left as far as I know. And when I ran the sub on bridge mode I slopes the wrong switches on the back which I think made the breaker on the amp pop but when I read the manual an flipped the right switches that was when I blew the house breaker that was the only time that happened I doubt it was a good idea jamming 2wires into one hole especially 8 gauge. You can by only powering 1 voice coil. But that throws off your T/S parameters. Not a good idea unless you know what you are doing.

What is your source of your signal? CD player? Radio? Cable box? iPod? If it is iPod via the headphone connection then you may not be getting enough signal from the source. Get a CD player. Ever a $25 DVD player from Wal-Mart is better.

i already tried running it off my cd player. it obviously got louder the cone started moving a lot more and the music got a lot louder. how would i know if it was 10 db louder does it matter if it was 10 or 9 db. i figured that the amp was putting out about 55o watts by doing the volts x amps formula

Since the decible scale is logrithmic, to get twice as loud it has to be 10db louder. 60db is twice as loud as 50db. 70db is twice as loud as 60db. And so on.

Amps has nothing to do with output wattage of the amplifier. You use this method - Measuring Amplifier Output Power .

I'm going off the EP-2500 for the DIP switch settings since I can't find the manual for the EP-4000. Look on page 6. http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbas...n/m_480697.pdf

If all of the switches are to the left:
1 - Clip limiter is off - Great. It needs to be off.
2 - Low cut filter is at 50hz - Normally doesn't matter but see switch 3
3 - Low cut filter is on - It needs to be off. All of your low bass is being filtered away. Move it to the right.
4 - Stereo - good since you are only using 1 channel
5 - Stereo - good since you are only using 1 channel
6 - Bridge mode off - good since you are only using 1 channel
7 - Bridge mode off - good since you are only using 1 channel
8 - 10 - doesn't matter until you use the input 2 but they should be the same as the top 3.

i will try that thanks. but i think we r going to run a 60 amp breaker to my room. i know it is over kill but it is a free breaker now that we dont use our hot tub anymore. my dads friens is a electrician [not the kind that thinks he is because it seems like eveyone knows a electrician] he might help us out. when i hooked that thing up to 2 channals the gain control on the amp was like a dimmer for my room lights. but if i bought a 4 wire terminal and hooked it up to my box that means inside the box each voice coil would have its own positve and negative wire which means it would be running at 1.5 ohms and the manual says nothing under 2 ohms especially in bridged mode. is there a way i could have it runn of two channal yet still run it at 3 ohms?

man that switch helped a lot. sound like the amp is getting a work out. oly only play a song or two intil the amp cools down. why when i have my reciever turned up and my gain on the amp turned up all the way the clip light goes on. i have to turn it down about 2 or 3 click or less and it goes away. reciever is still shutting off though? thanks that helped a lot with that switch. the breaker is probaly getting close to popping but i dont think it will. also what do u think the a mp is putting out on one channal 3 ohms? 800 watts? i dont have he correc tools to measure the wattage.

Absolutely overkill. Find out what size wire they are running. There are building codes that need to be followed.

It is not a gain, it is an attenuator. Big difference. When you turn it all the way to the right, it lets in the full signal strength but never more than what is being delivered from the receiver. That is why it is not a gain. As you turn it to the left, it attenuates or lowers the signal. Yes, it will do that. Good thing you didn't get a more powerful amp or you could have caused a housewide blackout.

I have only turned up my system a handful of times to see my EP-2500's clip light blink. I was immediately confronted by my wife screaming that things were going to fall and I would be the one paying for them. There is no need to crank it that loud. I'm lucky that I don't have any noticable hearing damage especially after the number of concerts I've been to and driving a Honda CRX with 22 speakers in it for 6 years.

i have the prowedge box when i turn that sub up it almost hits the grills!! the sub sound amazing and shakes the house. i dont think i need any more power. thanks for all the great help. everything is working great. if it wernt for you i would never have figure this out. i have tried many times but no one wanted to help. i will give you a hollar if i have any new problems or want to figure something out. i feel bad that i have gotten all these lengthy explanation and all you have in return is a thanks. thanks a lot

Dude is that a ported box you've got your 13w7 in? If it is and it was made for car audio (tuned to around 33hz) if you're not careful you coud easily bottom out (sub no workey no more) that sub without activating the Low Cut Filter while trying to watch a movie. Movies have a lot of bass below 33hz, and if you push your sub hard well below the tuning point of your enclosure, you will surely ruin it. Most music doesn't have too much bass below 33hz, but there is some that does, and if you run that sub without activating the Low Cut filter at 30hz, you're taking a great risk of trashing your 13w7.

If you ever decide to watch a movie, make sure you turn the Low Cut Filter to ON at 30hz. 50hz will take away all the deep bass, but 30hz is probably just about right. I would even consider activating the Low Cut Filter at 30hz all the time to protect your sub. Now if it's in a sealed box (there's no port) then I wouldn't worry about it. It looks like you've got it nearly dialed in. Just make sure you protect that sub or you'll end up having to do what you should have done all along... Getting rid of the 13w7 and getting a 4 ohm sub more suited for HT!!! A very amusing thread indeed. Thanks for the read.
