Re: how to run a car sub in house
The EP-4000 is just an EP-2500 in a new package. Power is the same. If you want more power you are looking at $1,000 and up for a Crown, QSC, Carvin or Face Audio amp.Look at the EP-2500 owner's manual, page 5, Figure 2.2 - Rear panel control elements. The 1/4" mono plug goes into Input 1 which is labeled as #8 in that diagram. The speaker connections for input 1 are labeled as #12 in the same diagram.
You have ignored one of my questions and there will be no more help until you answer it - Why JL and specifically why the W7?
Re: how to run a car sub in house
I want a w7 because I like the looks and the sound quality and it still gets kind of loud. I know they r overprised and there is better valued subs. Sorry I didn't respond to your questions I didn't see them because they were always at the bottom of your posts. I am pretty sure the so-4000 puts out more watss thoughRe: how to run a car sub in house
are u sure that is the right cable from radioshack because i need a subwoofer pre out on one end [what is the technical name?] and a trs 1/4 inch input on the other end. the radioshack cable is labeled 1/4 plug to rca jack shouldnt it be called subwoofer preout to trs jack. also the one end of the plug looks huge and the other end doesnt look like it would fit into anything i could be wrong but just my 2 centsRe: how to run a car sub in house
the 1/4 inch plug looks like that should maybe go into the amp and the other end looks like it would work if it was a male end

EP4000

RMS, 1% THD, both channels driven, bridge mode - 2400 watts. Peak; 4000 watts
EP2500

RMS, 1% THD, 1Khz, both channels driven, bridge mode - 2400 watts. Peak; not advertised.
Both amplifiers weight 36.6 pounds. The only way to put out more power it to put in a much larger transformer which would impact the weight of the more powerful amp.

Re: how to run a car sub in house
I run my EP-2500 at 2 ohms stereo into a pair of 15's. The fan has been modified to use a low flow, quiet model. I also reversed it so it pulls air from the front of the amp to the rear. The factory one is a little annoying in a quiet room at low volumes. With three cats in the house, the air filter on the amp will get dirty. I forgot to vacuum it a few times and it really cut down the air flow. During loud viewing the amp would just shut down for 10 or 20 minutes at a time. After 3 or 4 times, I went over and touched it. I could have fried an egg on the top of it. I vacuumed it clean and now it runs barely warm to the touch during normal listening. When my wife cranks her Motley Crue DVD, it gets really warm but not hot.
I don't recommend it but you can try running each coil to each speaker output. I don't recommend it but it will probably work without problems if you keep the factory fan. I don't recommend it but it will probably work as long as you don't crank the Crue like my wife does. Did I mention that I don't recommend it and shouldn't be held responsible if your amp blows?
Finally, you will have to set the DIP switches on the amp to turn off the high pass crossover. But we can visit that when you hook everything up.

I'm also learning every day as well. After researching for a couple of years, last year I built my own sub from scratch. Well as scratch as you can without owning a magnetizer. slideshow

Depending on the speakers that you have and the quality of the music on your iPod, it may or may not sound good. In the car or with headphones, my compressed music sounds fine. When I play it on my home system it sounds like compressed music. I'd much rather listen to the full CD quality. My music is ripped at 320kpbs in WMA format. I've heard the iTunes songs that are 92kpbs and 128kbps and they sound like crap to me in both the car and home.

Re: how to run a car sub in house
so the ep 4000 claims 2000 watts at 2 ohms off two channals could i run it off two channal but then wire the sub like thishttp://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/1DVC_2-ohm_mono.jpgi know how to wire everything except how to run the wire off two channals to the box and then from the box to the sub? last diagram would be appreciated
Re: how to run a car sub in house
o and if i were to wire the sub off one channal then the sub would be at 3 ohms but if i wired it off two channnal then the sub would be at 1.5 ohms

Re: how to run a car sub in house
i see how to wire that but i have to wire to the outside of the box first because the sub is in the inside of the box. the box only have a positive and negative hook up for one wire each unless i can fit two wires per terminal on the box.also how would i get 800 watts off two channels. i see specs that say 2000 watts a t 2 ohms of 2 channals? and if i run my subb off one channal how many watts would i have? is there a page where you get your specs from? is there a tool that i could use to measure the watts?thanks
Re: how to run a car sub in house
o do u think those radioshack wires will affect the soun quality because isnt radioshack wires not the greatest quality

Re: how to run a car sub in house
I get my specs from another forum where they have run independent tests on a number of amps. They used a bank of watercooled resistors to provide either a 4 ohm or 2 ohm load. Voltage meters, spectrum analyzers, test tone generators, etc were all used to determine how much power these amp put out in a home theater environment.I'm not following your question on the use of terminals. You would need a pair of terminals (2 positives and 2 negatives) if you wanted to wire the driver up to a stereo amp.
If I thought those Radio Shack cables were an inferior product I wouldn't use them.

Re: how to run a car sub in house
ho would i wire four wires to this hook up? i would have 2 positive and 2 negative wires if i was running off two channal right. then inside the box i would have 2 positive and 2 negative wires. i would run the positve and negative off one channal of the amp to one voice coil on the sub and the other positive and negative wires off the other channal to the other voice coil. i get how you just run the wires off the amp to the sub like the picture you showed me but the box is in the way thankshttp://dynamicautosound.net/ebayimg/...12RGW7SIDE.jpg

Re: how to run a car sub in house
how many watts would this run off one channal at 1.5 ohms and off 2 channals at 2 ohms or you could give me a link to your forum where you find these specsRe: how to run a car sub in house
i ment 1.5 ohms not 2

You either add a second set of terminals to the box or you wire your sub in series and run the amp in bridged mode.

The forum is AVS Forum. It's not a beginner site. You have guys building subs like this. That do it yourself enclosure has pair of 15" subs in it. And subs like this. Each driver you see is 18" diameter. On that side of the box there is an active driver in the middle with passives above and below. On the side of the box you don't see, there is also another active driver and a pair of passives. And then there is an identical box on the other side of the room. This guy took over a year to build these.

Re: how to run a car sub in house
i looked at radioshack before and i knew they had a hook up but i didnt know if i could install it. also you said off one channal the amp but off 800 watts at two ohms and 600 wattts at 3 ohms so at 1.5 ohms itwould but out around 900 watts off one channal how about 2 channals at 1.5 ohms i am just trying to figure out if it is worth buying new terminals and installing new hardware to run it off two channals. would running it off two channals be hard on the sub?

Re: how to run a car sub in house
Wiring the sub as 3 ohm/amp in bridged mode and wiring each channel of the amp to each voice coil is electrically the exact same thing. Hard one the sub? No. It doesn't care. Hard on the amp? Absolutely. As I have stated before, the amp is not designed to drive that load. The amp produces about 800w/channel into 2 ohms at 20 hz. It does about 1,500w bridged into 4 ohms at 20 hz. It isn't exactly the same but it is close enough. I really don't know how it will react into 3 ohms bridged or 1.5 ohms stereo. It is not rated to drive those loads. Keeping it cool and using the stock fan will probably help. Push it hard and it will shut down. Keep shutting it down and it will probably burn up.
There are so many better subs on the market for less money. This one is just difficult to use with a home amp.
