Is Polanski's Tess some where down the road for Criterion?

Since Criterion likes controversial directors', Polanski being one, and coming out with Repulsion, I'm wondering if they'll take a stab at restoring "Tess."

Depends on if Sony's willing to licence it to Criterion.

Well, it's not long since I caved and bought it, so I'd say it was now a certainty!

Criterion is releasing Repulsion? I had no idea! That's GREAT NEWS!!

(I'd love to see Cul-de-sac released as well!)

Ain't that always the way! I remember buying the original DVD release of Tron, only to have Disney release the 2-disc deluxe edition about 2 months later.

Was the Special Edition release of this unsatisfactory?

Not sure. Criterion is also supposedly working on Cul-De-Sac, so it's possible...

I'd rather see Rosemary's Baby come out first myself.

The special edition DVD of Polanski's Tess is a superior transfer, in print, easily obtainable and fully supplemented.

An immaculate and elegant thesis from Polanski.

If you read the reviews at Amazon, the current version of Tess is a disaster. I tend to agree with you. Maybe it is because I have been watching upscaled DVDs for so long, but I do not have any problem with the current DVD version. Tess is my favorite Polanski film.

I hope what I'm about to add is not against the rules: In Vietnam I bought a Chinese made Polanski Collection that contains all of his best known films including some he made in Poland before his first hit there. The quality is good, and I won't have to wait for Criterion.
