But the bigger news is that The Mirage Group has officially announced that they will be making a new live-action film for 2011.

The new movie will be a Batman Begins-style reboot, showing the origins of the team of crime-fighting mutant turtles. Legendary Pictures will be producing the film, and co-creator Peter Laird is on board as executive producer. Laird says that the new movie “will remain true to the spirit of the original comic books. ” Laird mentions that the new movie might also use a new face replacement technology, which would allow the turtles to be much more expressive.

I hope it will be darker and a better film than the CGI flick was. I didn't like it. And I guess Shredder will make an appearance .

As I sit here at my desk, looking at the first three DVDs - I can attest that I am so happy to here that they're will be another film. I'm very easy to please - and was happy with TMNT in 2007. I had heard rumblings back in late '07, early '08 that they wanted to make a live action film with some of cast members like Sarah Michelle Gellar, etc. I'd be happy.

This will be something that I will definately be more then happy to pay to see.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action reboot (2011)

It's been so long since a live-action version of these characters that I can see the need for doing the origin again in a reboot even though it was done perfectly fine in the original movie.

Honestly, the original film is still one of my favorites and is probably the only movie translation of an 80s/90s property that was actually made in the 80s/90s that's any good. Hell, you might be able to disregard the "made in the 80s/90s" part too because I'd hardly classify Transformers or GI Joe as good character work.

The work and care the Henson company put into the original production was obvious, but nowadays I think it's a good idea they're considering the "Where the Wild Things Are" approach and doing the bodies as man-in-suit and CGI the faces for a bit more realistic expression and movement.
