I'm having some trouble with my Denon 1908 receiver, it seems as it gets warmer the audio gets really crazy. All audio will be as normal, and then it starts getting scratchy, like there's a fan in between me and my speakers. And with out warning there's very loud screaching noises, sometimes the protection circuit kicks in and sometimes I just lose audio completely untill I power cycle it. Any ideas?

Re: Denon 1908 Problems
Sounds like it's time for a new one. Are you by chance using 4-ohm speakers?

Re: Denon 1908 Problems
Hey Wayne...glad to see you on this forum too (I'm a shackster at heart).Anyway onto the answer to the original question. Wayne has a point about the 4 ohm speakers. If you are using a relatively low impadence speaker or one that is known to dip down really low like many Klipsch speakers for example, you could be overdriving the amp (which could also cause it to overheat).
The protection circuit will kick in if you overdrive the amp too much, if it heats up too much or if there is an internal circuit fault.
The fan type noise is distortion and could be clipping. You could be damaging your speakers and the amplifier.
Try providing proper ventilation to the AVR and see if that helps. Make sure there is at least 6" to either side of the AVR and ideally there should be nothing above it (no shelves, etc). If you have t have it in a cabinet you may need to install fans in the rear to help dissipate the heat.
If you're biamping, stop doing that. If you have 4 ohm speakers, you can't use them with a 1908 and not expect oddities when you increase the volume.
Other things it could be is faulty processing or faulty amplification or just generally something wrong internally with the unit. Time to get a replacement if the obvious solutions don't resolve the problem.
