Sherbourn 5/1500A vs B&K TX4430 & EX4420

I am torn between Sherbourn 5/1500A vs B&K TX4430 & EX4420. The former is cheaper and, while it does get great reviews, probably inferior to a set of B&K (2+3 channel amps). The B&K's on the other hand are older, though doubt that it's that much of an issue, and are pricier. Price obviously is an issue and I'd appreciate some comments that would tilt me one way or the other.

My speakers: Sunfire's CRM-2.
Pre-amp: Denon AVP-3600.
Listening: mostly TV, Blues, some Jazz and some Rock and Heavy Metal.

thanks much.

I have a 5/1500A and am very happy with it. It is the one component in my system that I haven't even considered replacing. I have also heard a number of B&K amps, but not the specific ones you mentioned, so keep that in mind.

I think B&K makes very good amps, but I don't necessarily agree that they are better than Sherbourn, especially the class 5/1500A. The B&K amps I have heard do sound a little different from Sherbourn, IMO. I find them to be a little warmer and IMO they don't have quite the low end that the 5/1500A has.

FTR, I've never heard a B&K and Sherbourn amp in the same system, so I have no doubt that some of the differences were in the upstream electronics and/or the speakers.

OTOH, the rest of those 2 systems could also be negating some of the diffs between those amps too. Also, the actual listening environments, music played back, sound levels, etc. will probably matter as well. You won't really know which is doing what w/out some careful comparative testing me thinks.

Best thing to do is probably to just try both setups in your own system w/ the same music samples (you care about), etc. etc.
