Bought my sub, need help on enclosure and amp

Its been awhile since I have been on here but I finally bought a 12'' Fi Q which was originally going to be for my jeep. I think I'm just gonna make it a home sub though. Was thinking of powering it with a behringer A500 or EP1500, the Fi Q is fully loaded by the way so it can take 1300watts if I want it to. Anybody have any plans on a ported enclosure? This is my first build but I build boxes out of plywood and stuff at work, so I have the experience to build something out of mdf. The enclosure can be big, not sure what you guys consider big for 12'' sub though. Maybe 4'x4'x4' at the most. Room size is about 15'x9'.

Also, this is probably going to be more suited for music (listen to a little of everything), say 70%/30% between music and movies.

And I'm gonna try to spend about $300 on the rest of the materials.

Did you get the dual 1 ohm or dual 2 ohm model?

For sealed, I'd do a 2 cubic foot box. You end up with a final Q of .594 with an Fb of 35hz and an F3 of 43hz. That might not sound good but in a medium sized or small room, the natural gain will give you good response down very low.

For ported, I'd do a 4 cubic foot box tuned to 18hz with dual 3" flared ports. The F3 is around 16hz. It would be a low end monster. There is a nice design on the Creative Sound (Canada) site. All you need to do is substitute the 4" ports in the design with 3" ports.

With either design, I'd go with an amp like the O Audio BASH or the 500w Dayton plate amp. Why you ask? For the ported design, you will need a subsonic filter and both of these amps have filters. The O Audio has an adjustable filter via a selector on the back of the amp. The Dayton's filter is adjustable by changing resistors on the amp's circuit board. The Dayton has a selector switch that will cut the response in the 50hz range. You will need that when using this sub. A 3" voice coil this long will give a peak in the response in that area caused by the coil's inductance. Both also have a parametric EQ that can work with this hump as well as help smooth the response.

If I were going sealed, I'd use the Behringer amp and the Behringer Feedback Destroyer as the EQ. More power and more flexibility but it is also over your budget.

If I were going ported, I'd again use the Behringer as well as Elemental Designs PEQ. The eD has an EQ with an SSF. The only problem is voltage to drive the system. It will depend on what receiver you are using. And it is also is above your budget.

I can not find the ported design you recommended, can you copy the link?

The larger of the 2 ported designs. Use 3" ports instead of 4". You will probably have to use 3" plumbing elbows to make the ports fit.
