CRT projectors VS the rest? Are they any good?

I've been researching projectors for a very large screen application. (Please see Partybarn )

The screen will go across this wall:

The room is blacked out and I plan on using a 16' x 10' screen.

I know the CRT's are old technology, but some of these can support incredible resolutions. I have an electronics background, so I would stock up on replacement parts - so I'm not considering maintenance an issue. I'm curious about performance abilities. Here are some example specs on an Electrohome projector:
  • 8" CRTs
  • Digital Controls
  • 1,000 lumens
  • 25,000:1 contrast ratio
  • 57" - 250" screen size
  • 1600 x 1200 maximum resolution
  • HDTV compatible
  • Composite, SVHS and RGB inputs
  • 45 point convergence
  • Electromagnetic focus
  • Scheimpflug adjustment

I've searched on here and found very little information on comparisons. Does anyone have experience with CRTs?

Thanks.

Get professional design help. Your expectations of CRT for your application are far from realistic. A 16 foot wide screen in the proposed viewing environment would require a "light cannon."

hmm, I googled "light cannon" with no useful information for video applications.

What would constitute "realistic"?

This particular CRT is rated for up to a 250" screen. A 16'x9' screen is 220".

Concerning my environment:

When I turn the lights out, there is ZERO ambient light. IE you can't see your hand in front of your face.

The walls are flat black. NO reflective lighting (except objects in the room such as un-tanned naked bodies).

I have room to suspend a projector almost centered vertically on the screen (the center of the room is 16' tall). I have welding skills and materials to accomplish this with precision (since a CRT projector can weigh up to 250lbs!).

The specs I listed are the specs of an Electrohome 8110+ CRT projector. There's one for sale on EBay near me right now that I am considering purchasing.

What am I missing here?

one note, with a 1600x1200 max resolution you will be limited to 720p as 1080p is 1920x1080.

Wow - good catch. I was looking at the 1200 vs 1080 side things. I didn't consider the other side...hmmm...

...I see the Sony VPH-G90 has a resolution up to 2500X2000p and can support 16:9...claims to support screens as large as 300"...but doesn't seem to be very bright...350 ANSI lumens? Are specs read a little different for CRTs? Anyway, These go for around $5K. I suppose a digital in that price range would perform better and be more reliable...hmm...

Re: CRT projectors VS the rest? Are they any good?

Projector manufacturers' published specs are unreliable at best and purposely deceptive at worst. Don't rely on piecemeal forum analysis and advice if you want to get your money's worth out of your equipment and time investment. Get professional design guidance, including a personal interview and site inspection.

Most of the CRT front projection installations I've personally seen over the last 10 years have been wrong. Digital, fixed pixel projectors are less problematic, but there is still no shortage of misinformation enthusiastically and assertively stated on this and other forums about both projectors and screens.
