Re: Britain's Got Talent 2009

Oh man, that was a great show!

The Manchester auditions were the most impressive of the lot! There were a lot of great acts! Even the horrible sounding drag queen Dan Khan was entertaining to a certain extent. The knife act by Mike Henderson however was definitely too scary to be pursued any further.

The two stand-out acts had to be the ten year old girl Hollie Steel, and the dance troop Diversity. Both were simply astounding in their respective performances.

The big surprise was DJ Talent who, despite having been buzzed out with FOUR red Xs, still managed to get four Yesses from the judges, and move on to the next round (which is probably where he'll stay).

The best line was by judge Amanda Holden. "OhMyGod!OhMyGod!OhMyGod!OhMyGod!OhMyGod!OhMyGod!"

The Epic Fail of the night? The Amazing Stephen. His hand fell off.

I really love this show!

EDIT: Britain's Got Talent has launched their own YouTube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/BritainsGotTalent09 It's not like they had any other choice at this stage. Clips of the show were already being propagated around the world at breakneck speed, completely out of their control. At least this way, they can regain a bit of control on the quality of the clips released on YouTube.

Talented Ugly Person Baffles World - Borowitz Report

Quote:
The success of singer Susan Boyle on the reality show "Britain's Got Talent" has caused both television networks and their viewers to reconsider the intrinsic value of ugly people, media experts say.

In living rooms around the world as well as in the executive suites of media giants, those exposed to the Susan Boyle phenomenon are grappling with the paradox - thought impossible up until now - that an ugly person could be talented.

I probably won't listen to her if she records a CD, but I do like hearing her sing songs I'm already familiar with.

Listen to this - she sang "Cry Me A River" on a local charity album in 1999.

And singing "Killing Me Softly" on a demo recording that she made to send to record companies (not sure of the date).

I loved it when they aired Top of the Pops, but they only did so for a couple of months then took it off.

The UK version of The Apprentice is light years above the US version, especially the sleaze that is Celebrity Apprentice.

My wife is British and she wishes they'd show more programs that were of actual interest. We both would really like to see things like Britians Got Talent, and, yes, even Eurovision.

BBC America is a joke. Endless reruns of "Crap in the Attic" and various Ramsay shows. If it wasn't for "Top Gear" I wouldn't watch it at all. And now they've taken off the morning BBC World News program. I'm pissed (that is annoyed, not drunk)!

Yes it is. But I saw today that they will be adding the UK version of The Apprentice starting next week. It's far superior to the US version. The US's is all about Trump and product placement. In the UK it's all about the task. Never a brand name mentioned.

Re: Britain's Got Talent 2009

They will not allow any sort of advertising or product placement on the BBC. I remember years ago, Tina Turner had submit an alternate version of Private Dancer with the line, "Deutchmarks or Dollars, American Express will do nicely thank you" changed to "Pound Sterling will do nicely thank you" to clear for BBC radio.

Re: Britain's Got Talent 2009

Thanks, Hanson. I figured as much since the BBC is not a commercial network, but it's good to have confirmation.

Still, it makes the challenges on the show much more interesting as we're not getting the Crest Toothpaste logo shoved in front of our faces for a full hour. The challenges are more along the lines of "here's a laundromat. go out, get business, do the laundry and return it to the customer. whomever makes the most money wins"

I thought I recognized some of the contestants on the ads for the UK version. This series was shown back in August 2008 on CNBC.

CNBC only aired the first four episodes or so. Then the stock market tanked and they turned to 24-7 coverage of that. We had to get the rest of the episodes through less appropriate means...

Unless they were aired and the DVR didn't pick them up, but I'm pretty certain CNBC stopped airing them.

I only watched bits of it so didn't realize they didn't air the whole series. I just recognized the woman with black hair and red streaks!

I just got this email from BBC America:

"Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding BBC World News. Over the past few weeks, we've noted the response from our dedicated viewers to the removal of the morning news block. We understand that many of you wish to start your day with the BBC's newscast and we appreciate your loyalty. We're happy to report that after careful review, we've reached a solution that will enable us to reinstate a morning feed - though in a slightly different time slot which is more viable from a business perspective. Beginning Monday, May 18th BBC World News will air weekday mornings from 5-8am EST. We hope you enjoy it."

Last week's show was pretty much ho-hum.

This week however...

A doctor should check him out...

On another note (or pitch),

At this stage, it might not really matter if he wins or loses. He definitely has a huge career ahead of him.

Re: Britain's Got Talent 2009

This week's show was very ho-hum. In fact, Aidan Davis was probably the best of the lot. I still preferred George Sampson though.

The worst of the lot had to be the following.

The next one was frustrating. It's one more of those "split acts" where only one of the participants deserves to move on to the next round. Guess which one.

Memo: dump grandpa.

I'm not so sure Susan Boyle will win the final anymore.

This may be the year of the dance team!

Re: Britain's Got Talent 2009

My predictions.

Susan Boyle will not win.

Stavros Flatley will come in third.

Hollie Steel might break under pressure -- again, making me ask if there shouldn't be a proper age limit to this competition.

Shaun Smith, Julian Smith and Sallie Lax (of 2 Grand) will be signed up for recording contracts no matter what happens tonight.

12 year old Callum Francis, who did the number "Bare Necessities" from Disney's "The Jungle Book", should have made it through to the finals. No matter. He'll most likely find work in London's West End theatre district.

The battle for first place will be between Diversity and Flawless. It's a battle that's simply too close to call.

Just a few more minutes left for the final battle to commence!

You have to admit though...

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Talent or not, and yes, dancing takes talent.. it's still one of those talents you go "impressive" and that's it. It's not like I'm going to save video of dance routines anywhere to rewatch them or anything. Kudos to Diversity. They get the $100,000; but somehow, I don't see any sort of super-lucrative career in front of them. I mean, they could have had the greatest ventriloquist the world had ever seen, a guy who could eat sandwhiches and provide voices for two dummies at the same time. It would have been an incredible talent. And marketable like dog poo Just saying, congratulations to Diversity, I was very impressed with their talent. Now, they can take their hard earned winnings and find real jobs

They can do guest spots on TV, private gigs, public events (help open Olympics 2012 maybe?), perform for music videos, support touring pop-stars, maybe even stage their own show in the West End. Marketable like dog poo? Don't be silly. They were awesome last night, and a lot of viewers saw them being awesome. With the right publicist, they can be huge.

Terry Fator at the Mirage Casino in Las Vegas. From $64.90 to $141.90. Ouch!

Even if his fame doesn't last forever, he's pretty much set for life. Then again, Jeff Dunham is more popular than ever just by creativity alone, and of course one dead terrorist.

My favourite is still Peanut though.

Simon Cowell sees $$$$$$$$

Quote:
"£6M superstar" said the Sunday Mirror, claiming that "Britain's Got Talent" impresario Simon Cowell plans to take Boyle across the Atlantic to "conquer the U.S." The News of the World upped Boyle's likely earnings on the back of "Britain's Got Talent" to £8 million ($13 million).

On top of a multi-million dollar record deal and share of album sales, Boyle is also set to earn from a Hollywood movie of her rags-to-riches life, a book deal, and millions more from image rights, endorsements and television appearances, the paper said.

In an interview with the News of the World, Cowell said Boyle could be the biggest star he had ever discovered. "They don't care in America whether she wins a British TV show -- they care about the woman they saw singing on YouTube," a Cowell insider also told the paper. "If anything, £8 million in her first year might be an underestimate."

Diversity look set to support Michael Jackson on his "sold out" 10 date London shows!

Quote:
Meanwhile, competition winners Diversity are also set to cash in on their success with a film deal and a possible slot supporting Michael Jackson when the superstar plays a series of shows in London next month, the Sunday Mirror said. The group collected £100,000 ($162,000) for winning the final and will perform in front of Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Variety Show later this year.

Re: Britain's Got Talent 2009

So Susan Boyle will end up with superstar status even though her singing abilities might be the equivalent of a one-trick-poney.

Yes, that's how I feel about Susan Boyle. I found only her first performance to have been her best. She never emanated the same aura of joy and fascination in her later performances during the finals. If anything, I would have preferred if she had never made it in Saturday's final.

Diversity however was definitely in my opinion the most worthy winners. They had not only the best performances of the competition, but were also the most consistent in their overall improvement. They simply got better and better at every performance, never dropping the kid with the funky hairdo once.

All in all, this year's competition was incredible by the level of talent that was presented. Even the Stavros Flatley duo was enjoyable in its own way, mainly due to the incredibly strong bond between father and son.

I truly enjoyed this year's edition, and can't wait for next year's edition! It'll be a very tough act to follow!

Terry's original contract is reportedly worth $100m with an option to extend it 5 years for another $100m. I would say that has taken him far.
