Samsung LN40B550 : any experience?

I was set on getting a Vizio. But BestBuy Reward Zone points push me to buy from BestBuy. After some quick research, the new Samsung LN40B550 seems like a good choice. And happily the 2009 Samsung 550 is at 2008 Vizio prices.

So, does anyone have the new 550 model? Or experience with its peers, the LG 42H30 or Sony Bravia line, or other BB models in the $800-$1100 range?

The new Panasonic Viera LCD is intriguing, but it's too new and I can't find any info.

I bought the LN40B550 today. Easy setup; very light compared to my larger plasma Can't say anything about the picture until I get an antenna connected for HD (only SD cable for the moment).

My roommate just got a LN52A550 (60Hz 52 inch) for around 1300USD. It's awesome. Calibrate using AVIA or something, maybe get a professional calibration on yours. We haven't done that but it still looks superb to me. Good black level, decent contrast ratio.

I can't wait to have a house of my own. I'll probably buy this model or the upgrade to a full OLED display once they become more viable price-wise.

Have fun with it! Samsung makes some good TVs these days.

I've owned one for about a month now and can't say enough good things about it. I looked at many other brands but I kept coming back to the Samsung. I don't own a bluray player yet, but standard dvd's look excellent upconverted. Basic cable looks pretty good to pretty crappy depending on the station, hd stations look phenomenal. Color and clarity leave nothing to be desired. I haven't really played with the settings, very happy with the picture quality after the intial setup (and I've tweaked about every tv I've owned) I considered the Vizio 120hz but after watching alot of sports in hd and some gaming on the Samsung, I see no need for a 120hz set. There were a few 42" sets in the same price range but I would glady trade the 2" screen size difference for the Samsungs superior picture quality. Seriously, it's that good. Look at the customer reviews on Best Buy and Amazon's websites. I really don't think there is a better set for the money.

Sounds good Dan. I'm looking to buy this set on Friday. It can be had for 899.00 with no tax on military bases starting May 8th.

Two weeks later and it's a great TV. In my modest research it seems to be a top value, at about $900 for a quality 40" 1080p display.

I only wish I could attach a little stereo receiver and speakers to it. (space prohibits it for me) The speakers are, well, TV speakers. With a display this nice, it's a downer to not have full surround sound
