Tim,

We just about share the same favorite album by the Fab Four.  A Hard Day's Night is my second favorite album by the Beatles. :)

 Still waiting on FedEx... luckily, UPS stopped by an hour ago, and so I have Beatles Rock Band to help pass the time.  Just played through the Cavern Club set. The game is very nicely done with great attention to detail.

The Mono set has been appearing on online auction sites (many within the past few hours).  Bidding seems fast and furious.  I have no problem with people making a profit off limited supply (e.g. one set for personal use, and another for Ebay) - it's supply and demand, after all.  But it seems that the music industry (again) has avoided another profit opportunity!  And it's a shame that people who desperately wanted this set on launch day are missing out on the B&M sale prices.

It sounds to me they underestimated the interest in the mono set, especially with all the press coverage it's been receiving.  Still, I'm sure it will be available (eventually) for anyone willing to wait a few months.

I had a chance to sample a few of the stereo songs this past week, and they sound great.  But I could see casual listeners on poor speakers not being able to tell a huge difference.

I've never understood why isn't mentioned as often as the later albums.  I think it's the purest quintessence of the first phase of the Beatles' career.

For those who got in last night when Amazon's system showed the mono sets as able to be preordered (no indication of a delay), it was for real. I ordered last night, and just received my shipping notice today. As Jack Burton says, "the check is in the mail..."

Listen before it's gone!!

It's 2:00:00 in length, but well worth a listen.

The part about the Love Me Do acetates is fascinating.  Another royalty for Mr. Best! :)

I got my sets at Best Buy this morning. There was a guy there I got friendly with of the 5 guys there and we learned we were the only ones interested in the Mono box. So we planned to head straight for them and grab the monos first. By 10:00am, there was about 15 people in line. So when the doors cracked open, he bolted in and ran and got his copies. The sales people said, "hey no rush, we have plenty!" I got 2 mono boxes, one for a friend, and one stereo set because I couldn't get another stereo set in time. We, about 5 or 7 of us, cleaned them out of the box sets in less then a minute!

That was fun, I never did that before, rush in to grab something! I got what I wanted though, the mono set.

Thanks for the heads up Travis! They had a cardboard display that had all the box sets in. It was located way towards the back right before the TV section and near the video game. From what I could tell, they only had 3 Mono boxes.

Better hit the road Scott!

Mike, they must be certifiable! I'm sure they limited the whole run knowing full well the fans would go nuts trying to get the stereo sets. Helps them get good press.

The guy ahead of me said he was at the San Francisco Best Buy this morning at 8:00am. The local rock station was there doing their broadcast and he got interviewed for the newspaper. When the time came, he ran in and missed out on the Mono boxes. But he got a stereo box set.

Did you try going to bn.com and checking on the status of your order?  Maybe the email got stuck in your spam folder or something.  You should have a tracking link for your shipment (assuming it went out.)

It's a great documentary.  I've actually not heard a good deal of it before.

My sets will be here within the week.  Until then, it's either over to Nelson's house or Jack Gilvey's. ;)

I got both sets from Best Buy today. I had to work, so I ordered the stereo set for in-store pick up at about 12:30 last night. My girlfriend did me a big favor (she had the day off) and got into the store before anyone else this morning to grab the mono set. She said that they only had two copies, so she grabbed one with a big smile on her face. When I went to pick up my stereo box at 2:00 there were no boxes left in the store (except mine). I feel very lucky today. Even though I'm pretty much broke now .

I had forgotten I was going to be off work today so I had not planned anything. Then at the last minute I went to the Hastings in my little town, a couple minutes after they opened.
No customers at all.
"Do you have the Beatles Box Set?"
I didn't specify mono or stereo, I know who I'm dealing with. This is not a complement.
"We have one, (to the other clerk) it's locked up."
I waited anxiously for the arrival of what I was SURE would be the stereo box, and then they handed me their one and only..in MONO!
Downside? No bargain pricing at Hastings, not even close. 
I don't care, I've had a ball driving around listening to this music today.
Now that I'm home, I'm excited about hearing it on a really good sound system.

FedEx finally arrived with my boxes. Really nice packaging, especially the mono box. I love that they have the replica inner sleeves. Would have preferred the stereo set be laid out similar to the mono (so you didn't have to dig through a stack to get what you want) but that's a minor detail. 

Unfortunately, I have to go into work for a few hours this afternoon. Won't be able to listen until tonight...

Stupid.  If there is a shortage of something like an iPhone, it may spur even more demand.  There is a CD shortage -- most people shrug and go home to fire up the P2P client.  Doubly so for a band not on iTunes.

Friday cannot come soon enough for the mono box set (though there is a small chance it might come tomorrow).

I've been to various songs from the stereo set. The later albums, specifically Abbey Road, sound fantastic in stereo. The earlier albums sound great too, but I didn't realize until today how "forced stereo" or "fake stereo" really bothers me on my headphones. I suppose it didn't bother me much in 1987 when I got the CDs because I was listening through a normal (and small) stereo so when I heard the songs, it's almost as if they were mono since the little stereo didn't have much imaging potential.

However in the last few years I've really made my iPod + in-ear-monitors (currently Westone UM3X) my primary mode of listening (on the go) and so when all vocals are on one side, and drums are all on the other, it's a disconcerting feeling.

I have a feeling for at least pre-Sgt Peppers that mono will be my preferred listening version, and maybe even up through the White Album, though the stereo mixes of Sgt. Peppers, The White Album and MMT don't bother me as much as the forced stereo of the early albums.

One thing I'm disappointed about in this release, especially since the box set can accommodate the size: I want the real, full-size Sgt. Peppers cut-out!

I know it ultimately doesn't really matter, but for those who file their music CDs by artist and then chronologically, does anyone else put Abbey Road behind Let It Be? With all that went on with Get Back/Let it Be, and the fact that it was recorded before Abbey Road, I just feel that Abbey Road is the true (and better fitting) last album of The Beatles. Especially when the last song (minus Her Majesty) is The End.

I keep having this paranoid vision that BN will ship me the stereo box instead of the mono box by mistake...

So, I caved and ordered a backup mono box from Amazon in the wee hours of the morning before I had gotten my shipping confirmation from BN.  If the mono box shows up from BN with no problems, I will either cancel the Amazon order, or sell it at cost plus shipping to someone who could not get the mono set.

Meanwhile, the stereo set showed up from Amazon this afternoon, and I must say that I am enjoying it quite a bit, even the early stereo mixes from PPM and WTB.
