Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection - Page 2

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Very nice work, Matt. I'm especially happy with how the continuous 007 on the spines have more or less graphically rebooted with "Casino Royale," appropriately enough. The blue tint is also a nice touch. Thanks for taking over, and for doing it so well!

Thanks Charles, I very much appreciate hearing that, esp from you. Though I must confess, the '007' spine logo positioning was simply a product of resizing to fit the available space, with only minor tweaking by me.

Great work, Matt! I look forward to having a full set on my shelves.

One dumb question - these are designed for the thin (c.1cm width) cases, right?

Julian,

they are sized for amaray blu-ray cases with a standard 12mm width spine

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Thanks, Matt. Here in the UK, most Blu-ray discs are sold in cases the same width as standard DVD cases.

I prefer the thin ones, myself!

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

This is EXACTLY what I want for my Bond collection. Seriously, you are making my month with these.

I LOVE the oldschool Bond artwork so much (especially the Moore era, which is just fantastic) ... I am even looking into getting a new printer for these suckers.

Thanks again!

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Thanks so much for these (to Matt and Charlie) - the covers are awesome. Now I need a new printer or to find somewhere that will print them for me!

Oh man, I LOVE these covers. I only have volumes one and two, but now I feel compelled to buy more just to use this art! They look fantastic lined up next to each other on the shelf - way better than those stupid books they came in.

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Thank you very much - These covers really looks beautiful. Especially the old ones with the McGinnis drawings. Fantastic!

I can't get The Man With The Golden Gun to work though.

I just checked the link and it seems fine - what problem are you having?

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Matt,

Its so good to see you doing custom covers again and it's great to see you continuing and adapting Zinema's great set. The original DVD set is one of the earliest custom sets I remember and it was absolutely the first to show me that someone figured out how to do an expanding spine image. A trick I was determined to figure out for myself.

The design is a classic, but never seems dated. And I love all the old poster art. Dang, yer gonna make me buy all the Blu-rays, aren't you?

Nice work!

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Matt, these covers are crazy sexy, but I have a question.... why is NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN number 7? DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER is #7. NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN didn't come out till 1983, around the same time as OCTOPUSSY (#13),

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Craig,

It's a joke. And a nice one.
It's not just #7, it's 007!

That would be a clever joke... except that DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER will ALSO be "007" when its cover is done, since the other single-digit entries are prefaced with double zeroes. So.... I'm still confused.

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Matt is simply continuing the same numbering system I used on the first Zinema set. If you look closely, the official film numbers feature a yellow box with a white number inside, while the various offshoots feature a gray box with a gray number inside. All the offshoots received a gray "007." Only "Diamonds Are Forever" includes a white and yellow "007."

I know it ain't perfect but hey, it's free.

As local legend Tom Peterson used to say in his commercials, "free is a very good price." Don't get wrong, I'm not complaining... the covers are stunning, and I will absolutely use them.

Craig,

as Charles said, I'm simply continuing the numbering system used on the original Zinema DVD covers. Official EON Productions Bond films are numbered according to release date (with the white/gold color scheme), and unofficial / companion films (CR 1967, NSNA, etc) are numbered "007" with a grey color scheme. They also do not have any part of the 007 gun graphic on their spines, and as such are designed to be kept together separately from the official films.

While I realize that some people would prefer the unofficial films be integrated with the rest of the collection, they seem to be in the extreme minority, and would it result in me needing to create two complete cover sets. And since I'm not feeling that ambitious right now, I'll just use the excuse that I'm doing it the way it was done before =)

regards,
Matt

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Hello Matt,

I'm so glad you have brought these covers back to life again. I do recall these for the special edition versions some six years ago.

I really hate what MGM and FOX have done with the front covers. I really wished that SONY could have released the movies instead.

There is only one thing that does not seem consistent with your covers. You have added images of Bond,Bond girl that are from the current blu rays on the back top left hand side on a few and a few have original pulicity photos.

Is there any way you could include the original publicity shots rather than the lame blu ray shots for the ones below.

FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
LIVE AND LET DIE
MOONRAKER
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
LICENCE TO KILL and
DIE ANOTHER DAY

I hope you understand and I hope I have not been of any inconvenience.

if you can find me nice hi-res publicity shots for those films, I'd have no problem replacing the bluray shots. I was unable to find any of suitable layout/resolution otherwise I would have done so

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Hello Matt,

What were the shots on the original Zinema dvd versions like? could they not be used?

If not how about doing the others with the blu ray art..in that way I don't feel distracted..I wouldn't want you to change them just for my sake but at least in that way you get the best of both worlds.

I've had a look online but there just not seem to be any hi res images except for the blu ray cover art designs.

In fact looking closely at your covers it does appear to be better with the blu ray art on the back rather than the stock publicity images. It makes sense they appear more identical. This is with the exception of CASINO ROYALE, QUANTUM OF SOLACE and NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN.

I'd like to thank you for your time and effort in creating what the studios should have thought off in the first place.

By the way what size should I set to print to the correct size to fit in the case?

Thanks again.

the publicity shots from the Zinema covers for the movies in question were either too low-resolution/quality, or wouldn't work layout wise (since the area on the bluray cover is shorter vertically). I suppose I could redo them all with the bluray cover art to be consistent, but I'm lazy and it's pretty easy for anyone who wants to do it to do so.

covers are correctly sized as-is for a standard single-width USA bluray case. I'd print a low-quality B&W version first just to make sure though, since there's some variation between printers etc.

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Thanx Matt,

I do believe you will continue to carry on with these covers once the remaining titles are releasesd. If you do continue I suppose you will carry on with the blu ray image on the reverse and perhaps you will redo the others once you find time.

I appreciate your understanding.

Most grateful.

P.S Do you have the covers done yourself and do you have an image of how the spines line up on the shelf?

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Hey, while we are talking about minutiae and making requests, I would like to see the spine of the Spy Who Loved Me have the full title readable. The spine of the 1999-2000 DVD and the MGM VHS are unreadable. One of the worst logo creations I have ever seen.

Finally got around to printing out most of these and putting them in BD cases. They look terrific. Outstanding work.

Re: Zinema-style James Bond 007 Blu-ray Collection

Matt, I just wanted to congratulate you on a job well done. These covers will be excellent for the Bluray Bonds. I'd like to ask you a favor. I still need to finish my Bond DVD covers. The CD-R zinema sent me a few years ago has been corrupted. The copies I made of the covers are lost. It would be most excellent if you could either upload those original zinema DVD cover files here or in the standard def DVD forum, or you could upload the files on rapidshare. The easter egg at thedigitalbits is down, and it would really be wonderful to finish the custom covers for my Bond DVDs.
Thanks!
