What's Going on?

I could use some help please. I just received an upgrade -Benq PE8720 from BenQ as my old PE7700 projector had problems while still under warranty. When I watch DVDs and Blue Ray my image looks fantastic. When I watch TV or movies from my Directv hd receiver there is often a problem. Watching movies such as ones on HBO or Showtime, the picture is wrong. It almost looks like the images look cartoonish. The shapes (especially in darker scenes) are in a way broken down into graphic shapes. It is doing it in SD and in HD but worse in HD. There are great steps in the value changes (not smooth transitions). It's really bad on skin tones and in backgrounds especially when the background is not soft and not the focus. Below is an atachment to an image that has a similar look. This image is very exaggerated compared to what is really happening but it should give you an idea. This happens on almost all of the directv hd movies, however when I watch the network hd programming the picture sometimes looks fine (like the morning shows & newscasts). Is it my projector? Settings? Or just how directv works with my projector? I tried component cables & HDMI with same results. I ran the projector to an LCD screen and it looks fine on there.
Thanks for any advice.

Re: What's Going on?

How is the projector connected to the directv unit? Have you tried using a different connection method?

Re: What's Going on?

Maybe your having a decoder issue. Is in the the HDTV settings in the Directv receiver set to Native ON? Try setting both on or off and see problem remains.
