hey guys,

i recently purchased a pair of bookshelf speakers, to connect to my computer. does anyone know any adapter/add on to the computer that will let me connect 5-way binding posts to my headphone jack? or do i have to buy an amplifier? if i have to buy an amplifier or reciever, how much will a mid-range/low-range 2.1 channel amp cost, and how will it connect to my laptop?

thanks a lot.

oh yeah i'm a noob in bookshelf speakers and the lot

You are going to need to purchase an receiver to drive your speakers. and connect the audio out from your PC to a input to your receiver. You will probabley need a adaptor plug for your connection 3.5mm from your PC to RCA for your receiver.

Perhaps a better choice may have been a speaker system made for PC applications. This would have a power amp built in to the sub woofer to drive the speakers. I have a Logitech Z5300 which is a 5.1 system I think I paid a little over $100 for it. In a small room and teamed up with a good sound card in your PC will produce a very satisfactory sound. You can also find these systems in 2.0 and 2.1 configurations. Lots of companys make then Logitech, Creative, Cambridge, and Kipsch to name a few.
