Re-starting in mid movie

I have a Panasonic DMP-BD-35. This problem seems to be random but I am pretty sure it isn't. On occasion, when watching a movie, Blue-Ray, I will pause it and then power off the system. When I return, I power the player on. Approximately 50% of the time, the movie will re-start at the point I paused it. The rest of the time, it starts at the beginning of the movie. This happens repeatedly and on the SAME movie/same disk. In other words, if I turn off the player 10 times, (same movie/disk), about 5 times it will start where I left it, and the rest, will start at the beginning. Why? All variables are constant that I could think of. My goal is to be able to have it re-start where I left it every time. 1st post by a newbi. Thanks.

Blu-ray players do not support this feature, it has to be implemented on the disk itself, and on some disks it's impossible to implement because of interactive extras.

An incredible oversight on the part of Blu-Ray's designers.

But the OP said it works intermittently on the same disk. So something must be causing the player to lose the state.

Maybe opening the tray? Initially hitting pause vs stop vs power off? Using/not using interactive features?

Not an answer to your question, but you might use the bookmark feature so you can more easily return to where you left off.

It's a good suggestion, but the bookmark feature isn't available on all Blu-rays. I wish it were.

I'm moving this to HT Software - High Definition, where the issue has been extensively discussed and is likely to get more attention.

Re: Re-starting in mid movie

I can't speak for your Panny, but my Sony BDP-S350 is VERY sensitive to how hard I press the "Stop" or "Power" buttons when I do this. The slightest bit of extra pressure and I get the on-screen message that "Playback from this point is no longer available" flashing by right before the unit powers down.
I find I have to hit the button very, very lightly to ensure it resumes playback again at that same point.

(I love that the Sony gives the me the on-screen message about this, so I always know what to expect when I power back up. )

Re: Re-starting in mid movie

I have a similar problem.
On any disc that has any type of loading time (i.e. an hourglass) I lose my place in the movie when I hit Stop and turn off the player. If there are no illustrated loading screens, I don't have this problem at all and can resume playback.
I try to use bookmarks to save my place in the film, but unfortunately this option is not available on all discs.
It's VERY annoying.

Here is a thread which discusses the Stop Button issue. I admit that what you are asking about seems a bit difference since the same disc will resume sometimes and sometimes not.
