Shelf Stereo to External Amp via Line Output Converter

I am fairly new to this forum so this may seem like a noob question Anyways I want to connect my external amplifier to my Panasonic home stereo system. The amplifier requires an RCA input but the stereo does not have any analog RCA outputs. How can this be achieved? My last Sony stereo system had the RCA outputs but this Panasonic system doesn't. Someone told me I can use a Line Output Converter but when I did a search I saw these mainly for Car stereos and not so much home stereos. I was looking at this one:

SCOSCHE 2-Channel Adjustable Line-Out Converter LOC80

I realise most of these line output converters are rated to handle 20 - 30 watts per channel but the one in the link can handle 80 watts per channel. Can someone point me in the right direction or provide a good/safe solution. Thanks in advance!

Re: Shelf Stereo to External Amp via Line Output Converter

Would you be able to provide model numbers for the gear in question?

My initial guess is your Panasonic home sterio system is a home theater in a box combo with limited proprietary inputs? Also, is your external amplifier a true amplifier or an older stereo receiver? Hard to gauge without knowing the gear being discussed...

Cheers, JB

Re: Shelf Stereo to External Amp via Line Output Converter

The panasonic is Model SA-AK870, it is a home stereo setup, not home theatre system. The amplifier is a true standalone kenwood amplifier with RCA signal inputs. The stereo does not have RCA outputs so I think I would need a good line output converter.....any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Ah, the Panasonic is a boombox, I get it now.

The simplest method would be to use your headphone jack and get a stereo headphone plug to dual RCA plugs Y adapter splitter cable. The only difference (normally) between a headphone jack and line-out is that headphone jacks are amplified. Other than that, there shouldn't be much more of a difference

^^^ I am not sure if the speakers on the stereo will play if the headphone jack is utilized. Won't amplified signals be detrimental to an amp? This line-out I am referring to would take a tapping off the speaker wires and convert it to a line level signal for the external amp....won't this be safer?
