No Surround Sound

Hi everyone,
I had my home theater setup for me about a yr ago. Everything was working great until about 1 wk ago.
The only speakers working are the ones next to the TV. The surround speakers are not working at all!
The only thing I can think of is, my grandson hooked up his PC to my Tv to watch a movie. I don't know if the problem comes from something he did or not.
I did go to settings on the Bose and set it to the 2-5 speakers. Still not working.
I do not want to call Geek Squad, as I did not like their work.
Please help! What should I check?
I have a 58'" Panasonic plasma and Bose Lifestyle V20.

Re: No Surround Sound

Does the receiver have an A/B speaker switch? On some receivers if you activate the "B" speakers it switches the "A" speakers to stereo.

No, no switch.

Re: No Surround Sound

I don't think the Bose system comes with Audyssey calibration that will test out your speaker connections. It sounds like your grandson may have changed some of the settings in the receiver when he played with your system. Also check out and make sure all of the connections to other equipment are tight. He may have loosened something when he connected his PC.

I would suggest that you go through your initial equipment set up that must have come with your Bose system. You should be able to reset things to factor default and go from there.

Re: No Surround Sound

I called Bose for help, was on the phone for 2 hrs. got nowhere.
It has to be simple (I hope) because the surround speakers work when I put a DVD on, or listen to the music channels on cable.
Actually the only time it doesn't work, is with movies on TV whether they are playing now or if I downloaded on my DVR.

Is your DVR built into your cable or satellite box, or does it sit between the cable/sat box and the Bose? If so, it may be that your grandson either changed setting on the DVR (or the box) or disconnected one or more wires. (You could have had both stereo analog and digital audio outputs hooked up, which would leave you with stereo if the digital connections was unplugged.) A call to you cable or satellite vendor (or your DVR vendor) might get you more help than what Bose was able to provide.

Good luck,

Joe
