It is, BUT beware of the SLOW 2X color wheel speed.

Slow color wheel speeds on a DPL projector give rise to "rainbows" perceived by some viewers. This is of course most objectionable on classic black & white movies. My observation is that if you sit still and don't move your head much you won't see any rainbows. YMMV. But the DLP otherwise should be excellent for sports viewing as it tracks motion without smearing better than the LCD competition.
