Angel Star Andy Hallett Dies of Heart Failure - E! Online

He passed away from heart failure.

He played the fantastic singing demon Lorne.

Very sad news.

Re: ANGEL actor Andy Hallett passes away

Such a loss. He was so committed to the Lorne character that he did most of his interviews in makeup and wouldn't be photographed out of it. He didn't want to break the illusion.

I saw this news item appear, and then vanish due to it being uncomfirmed, from Whedonesque today when his old makeup artist from Angel wrote about his passing.

He was a highlight of the series.

Two nice photos from makeup artist Dayne Johnson's MySpace page:

Andy Hallett as Lorne with Amy Acker (now on Dollhouse) as a green-skinned "Lornette" dancer in Vegas from the episodes when Lorne gets a Vegas act, and as the blue-foreheaded Illyria.

Re: ANGEL actor Andy Hallett passes away

Two actors from my all-time favorite series are gone.

It really does make a difference when watching, knowing they aren't there anymore but live on through their work that we enjoy, especially since they were so memorable.

Andy was nice enough to pose for this shot at Dragon Con 2001:

He was very appreciative of his fans.

Re: ANGEL actor Andy Hallett passes away

Not long after the series ended, there was a 'get well Andy' gathering of well wishes for him after he was hospitalized with an undisclosed illness. This must have been the illness, as that was indeed five years ago.

Outside of reading about how he was attending the odd convention, there was never any hint of news about him since the end of the show, and now it seems to make sense as to why.

Whedonesque fans posted some information; it appears to have been a tooth that became infected, which as you probably know can take an infection straight to the heart (infective endocarditis) which causes swelling of the heart, in his case to the point of leaking and damaging everything (advanced cardiomyopathy is what he described it as in an interview). Basically he got dealt a bad hand, a really bad hand -- a heart transplant or meds and supervision were likely his choices. His only realization of the cause was after the fact - he recalled a filling had fallen out, but it didn't bother him at the time. Chances are the filling fell out because the tooth had already started to decay, or, conversely, after the filling fell out, the tooth may have quickly become infected. Either way, he became quite fatigued soon after, and that makeup artist noticed, and took him to the hospital.

I knew someone who had infective endocarditis but it was caught early enough that they were able to cure her (with weeks in hospital) before it did too much damage, in fact she still jogs and such, so, really, not much damage at all because it was fought in time. And it was caused, similarly, by an infected tooth/gum, the infection carried to the heart.

Re: ANGEL actor Andy Hallett passes away

Wow. I was a huge Angel fan and for whatever reason, I regret to say that I sort of forgot about Andy after the show ended probably because he was pretty unrecognizable under all the makeup and I didn't see him in any post-Angel work. Pretty sad news. I really enjoyed his character and the man had a great singing voice as well.

Re: ANGEL actor Andy Hallett passes away

Wow. Very sad news. He was really young. And, he essentially died of heart disease from a tooth infection? Yikes.

Yes, double Yikes... I had an infected wisdom tooth that I let go much too long, but I finally wised up and got it taken care of. I had no idea this kind of thing could result.

And he was younger than me by about a year, so that's sobering as well.

Re: ANGEL actor Andy Hallett passes away

If I'm not mistaken, the late, great Bobby Darin died of heart failure caused by a tooth infection as well! RIP, Andy!

To die so young and from something that could be taken for granted.....it's just too sad. So long Andy.

Re: ANGEL actor Andy Hallett passes away

I was so sad to hear about this. I heard about it at work and almost started crying. Lorne was one of my favorite characters -- and nobody could've done it like Andy. We'll miss him.
