Subfloor & Speaker Placement Help Please

Hey everyone, I'm currently in the process of building my media room, its approximately 10' x 16' x 9' in the basement (concrete floor).

I'm thinking of doing carpet on top of plywood paneling on top of carpet padding to create a false floor subfloor for better acoustics, can anyone tell me if they would approve of this, suggest other ideas?

Also I would like to have the couch as far back as possible but still have 7.1 setup, how should I have the rear speakers setup? What height should they be, how far forward would I need to have the couch, if need be?

Thanks everyone!

Re: Subfloor & Speaker Placement Help Please

You don't want carpet padding under plywood on a concrete floor. It will absorb moisture and turn into a mold infested heap. There are sound isolation products designed for that if you want to go that route. I just have carpet with padding on top of concrete and it works just fine. I really don't see what benefits a floating foor would give me.

If you are putting your couch against the back wall, go with 5.1. 7.1 would be a waste.
