Velodyne SPL1200 sub making clunking noise

Got this new back in March 2002, never drove it too hard nor too loud
but now when it's trying to work you hear several hard thunking noises
coming from the sub instead of the regular bass sounds.

I cracked it open but nothing looked obvious out of order

Anyone else have this happen? if so, what was the cure?
Thanks,
G2

maybe a bad cable, or cable not plugged in all the way !?

Good point, I didn't check the cable at the receiver end, will check
that when I get home tonight, man I hope that's it !

If it is a driver problem then nothing will look out of place. With the sub unplugged from the power, gently press down on the center of the cone. Listen for scraping and scratching. A working driver will move freely without noise.

Cables were plugged in

And Robert, just tried moving the cone, moved without any scraping
noise, so it must be in the amp, sending it in today, they said they
have a fast turn around time, a flat fee of $235 for the repair and return
shipping, a bit of a bite, had this about 7 years to the day, it's a solid
sub, when it's working, so I'll get her fixed and go on.

Thanks for your replies guys,
G2
