PS-3 problems

Thread Starter
Had my PS-3 for over a year now...and updates are current. Played new Bond Q o S. At several point the progams froze, went into double speeed...and/or completely froze. Replace the disc. Same thing happened in other places on the new disc. Tried GOLDFINGER and it froze and speed up in a couple of places. Went back and tried some older discs blu rays which played fine in the past, and they too will not play correctely. The "theater" area had just been dusted, etc and i was wondering if jarring HDMI cables, etc might cause some kind of problem like this....or does my PS-3 need replacing?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: PS-3 problems

I may watch the movie later on my PS3 in the basement system since my other Blu-Ray player is temporarily unhooked. Which PS3 model do you have? I got mine around Sept. It is the 80G model w/o SACD.

Re: PS-3 problems

Positioning, removing or even damaging cables won't have any effect on the disc's playback unless you somehow hit or dropped the console at the same time. If you unplug an HDMI cable while a disc is playing, all that does is stop you from seeing and hearing it, but it's still playing. It's possible there's a problem with something on the inside of the console, such as the laser or maybe the gears that control the spindle the disc spins on. Could be dust on the laser lens.

Re: PS-3 problems

I watched both QOS and GOLDFINGER on my PS3 today, and they both played fine. I would check for dust on the discs; also, maybe shut the PS3 down and unplug it for a few minutes. That was what I used to do with my Samsung BD player when it would freeze up, and it usually fixed the problem.
