Anyone out there have any experience with the Proficient LCR in ceiling speakers? I'm looking to put them into my media room. My question is whether the ability to point the tweater will allow you to hear the audio well enough to enjoy a movie or sports event. How is the center channel? What model would your recommend?

Yes, I had C870's installed in my father in laws home in a 7.1 configuration. They are connected to a Denon AVR-4308CI Receiver and use an Aperion Audio powered subwoofer. I ran the Audessey setup on the receiver and had the room balanced out. I selected the C870's' since the ceiling is 12' high. Once I had run the Audessey setup we put in a couple of newer James Bond movies to test out the sound and it was great. I later found out that Proficient is part of SpeakerCraft another company familiar with in ceiling speakers. Needless to say we were impressed with the results. I would recommend them as very good value for the money.

David,While the speakers you mention may be good, if you have the choice I suggest you look at bookshelf or tower speakers. Even the very best ceiling speakers won't be as good as a decent set of non-ceiling speakers.

I agree 100%. Why do you want to use ceiling speakers?

I'm not familiar with that specific speaker, but I can tell you I have some 6" Proficient in-ceiling speakers in my house and I love them.Re: Proficient LCR In Ceiling Speaker Thoughts
I'm doing in ceiling speakers because the wife will not allow bookshelves or any other obtrusive equipment in the room. Given that I won't win that issue, I'm trying to find the best valued in ceiling speaker. A friend of mine told me he put them in his neighbor's home and they sound great. I am concerned whether you can hear a movie or sporting event well. I plan on running 5:1 configuration. Is the center channel just another Left or Right speaker?

Using the C660 or C870 LCR should be fine. Without knowing room dimensions and amplifier, etc. You will still need to get a sub in the system somehow. In the case of the 870's they are a LCR Left Center Right speaker. Given that ceiling mounts are your only choice, these would certainly keep everyone happyRe: Proficient LCR In Ceiling Speaker Thoughts
Now that I've decided to buy the C870s for LCR, what would you recommend from an unobtrusive subwoofer that I can hide in the back wall next to my sofa?Re: Proficient LCR In Ceiling Speaker Thoughts
I have another question... has anyone heard of a flexible speaker enclosure that you can insert into the ceiling where your speaker will fit. The idea is to slip and glue the enclosure above where the LCR speaker will be mounted, so that sound doesn't travel through the attic and it keeps the sound focused down into the room. Someone told me about these enclosure devices that can be bent and slipped into the ceiling vs. new construction in which you could mount a hard enclosure in place. Thanks...
