Re: what can i power speakers off?
ummmm, we need a few details.Describe the sub, is it powered or passive?
What do you want to listen to AM, FM, AM HD, FM HD, CD, Tape, 8-track
What ohmage are the speakers?
I would say that a car unit is not ideal in this situation.
There are some relatively inexpensive recievers out there that might drive your speakers and provide a signal to your sub.
Re: what can i power speakers off?
its a powerd sub. the speakers are 8ohm. i hav it hooked up,it works but i was unshore about the ohmage. i think the headunit is 4ohms. i hav the speaker output from the headunit connected to the high level input on the sub. then the speakers are connected to the speaker output on the sub. can this damage my speakers?Re: what can i power speakers off?
if i run two 4 ohm outputs (L+R+L+R) to the one high level input on the sub will that make it an 8 ohm output?

Re: what can i power speakers off?
No, that wouldn't work. It sounds like you would be forcing the head unit to see a 2ohm load. I'm pretty sure the head unit is not 2ohm stable and you'd burn it up and possibly damage the sub in the process. To make a 4ohm source see an 8ohm load, you would have to have two 4ohm subs wired in series.
Now if the sub is 4ohm dual voice coil, you could wire the voice coils in series and make the head unit see an 8ohm load that way.
But I have to agree with the other members that this is not an ideal setup and you would be much happier using a receiver to power the speakers and sub.
