Excellent news! The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy Season One both in the summer. Double the Joy!. It will be odd watching both of these at the same time though.

Very good news! I have been on a big Lucy kick lately and have been wanting desperately to get an official release of some of the early "The Lucy Show" episodes with Viv. But I am really looking forward to Season 2 with both Viv and Gale Gordon's arrival as Mr. Mooney.

It'll be nice to see this series with pristine, uncut prints, after almost half a century of seeing blurry, washed-out, cut prints.

These will have pristine, uncut prints, won't they?

And these will have the original music scores, won't they?

Nah. Knowing CBS/Paramount, and how horrible they are at clearing original music, they'll probably bring in those talentless hacks in Roy Braverman & Mark Heyes.

They suck. They need to be fired, and blacklisted from the industry at once.

This is the news I've been waiting to hear! I know there has been rumours of this coming but I always wait for confirmation from TVShowsOnDVD.com and it looks like this is FINALLY going to happen!
HURRAY!! HURRAY!! Lucy & Viv together again and hopefully complete & UNCUT!!
This is going to be a GREAT summer with releases of BOTH The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy coming!!! (Oh, and her specials too!!!) AWESOME!!! I can't wait for the official release dates for the first season set of The Lucy Show and MPI's Here's Lucy season 1 so that I can pre-order them.

Looks like 2009 is going to be the "Summer Of Lucy" !

Hopefully they'll be musically intact I don't remember how much music this series had.. I have to finish my Lucy collection I'm short a few I Love Lucy Volumes...

Well, I hope they leave in the music in the episodes where they put up a tv antenna and the one where Lucy and Viv are chaperones. They sing "Big Girls Don't Cry" and it's hilarious. To cut it out would be like removing the big scene of the episode.

According to a release schedule that I have seen, the most recent date for "The Lucy Show" is July 21.

I think I'll wait before I decide on whether to pick it up. I was more a fan of the classic series than the sequel series.

For those who don't know, it should always be repeated: The first season of "The Lucy Show" was very much like "I Love Lucy," without Ricky and Fred.

At first, it was even produced by Desi Arnaz, who hired all the same writers who purposely wrote Lucy Carmichael to have the exact same personality as Lucy Ricardo. And Lucille Ball played her the same way.

Viv was like Ethel, except better dressed and somewhat more sophisticated. Also, they had the reverse situation of Lucy being Viv's "landlady" -- although that's the way they ended up on "I Love Lucy," too, when they all moved to Connecticut.

Exactly right. And, frankly, it also helped that the show was still in black and white. It was the closest thing to having one more season of "I Love Lucy."

This one takes me back. I love the theme song and opening credit sequence of the color seasons that ends with a glamor shot of Lucy. That Mill Creek set is nice, but this is very exiting news. Can't wait to see how much better they look.

I still need to get I Love Lucy. Good excuse to get that done as soon as there is a sale.

BTW, I was watching a 3 Stooges episode last week and Lucy was in it. Young, tall and very pretty.

The opening credit sequence of Season 1 of "The Lucy Show" is a black-and-white cartoon of Lucy and Viv hammering up letters spelling out the name of the show.

This is fantastic news. I'm in for at least the first couple of seasons, probably up through season 3. After that I'm not so sure. I'm really looking forward to the great Christmas episode that will appear on this first season set.

That was a great gaffe on "I Love Lucy." When Lucy's mother joined the trek to Hollywood, she said she wanted to go to present her book to Dore Schary personally.

Later, when they were out there, the Ricardos and the Mertzes were talking about Dore Schary, and Lucy's mother asked who he was (and that's when Fred gave her the facetious line quoted above.)

I know the woman was daffy, but that really was a goof.

Be that as it may, I agree with Gary OS about that Christmas episode from Season One. The scene where Lucy and Viv ruin each others' trees is an all-time classic. If that had been on "I Love Lucy," people would be talking about it all the time.

You "I Love Lucy" fans really have to give Season One of "The Lucy Show" a chance. It's nothing like those later color episodes where Lucy worked for Mr. Mooney in the bank and "celebrities" came walking through the door in every other episode.

That season 4 one is the one I like so much. I grew up with it. The "hammering up letters" one is on a few on the Mill Creek set. I was disappointed when I first saw it. But happy when I noticed some had the one more familiar to me.

The studio suits probably didn't agree with Lucy. She wanted variety, which was smart, they probably wanted the familiarity that the same opening titles would bring.

Not only is the episode hilarious, the denouement is, I think, unexpected.

The thing that always bothered me about the shows after I Love Lucy was that Lucy's voice already was getting deep.She never sounded like Lucy Ricardo or the Lucy from the 30's and 40's movies again.

No, she didn't.

I was watching an episode from the last season of "Here's Lucy" (on YouTube), and her voice was so low she had no flexibility in it at all.

The books about her say this came about due to too much smoking, too much Scotch, too much screaming and not ever really knowing how to project her voice properly. This last theory came from her own daughter, who felt her mother might have ruined her voice doing her Broadway show "Wildcat" in 1960-61.

TV Shows on DVD announced this today July 21, the entire 1st Season. I'm Grateful to Paramount but I'd still like to hear the rational how we can get a complete season for Lucy and Split seasons for Gunsmoke. Lucy was Popular but you're still talking the longest running show (Up till recently) of all time. Once again I can't wait to grab Lucy. It's been along time since I've seen this, I remember mostly the color seasons in syndication, the B&W not so much.

Notice how CBS/Paramount talks about the beautiful remastering in their message, but say nothing about the audio. Hopefully there will be no music replacements on this, that Lucy is a big enough name, that they went out and cleared the music. It would be really sad to see this go the way of My Three Sons.
