I wish this would come out on DVD; it is one of the few series I am still waiting for and have not yet transfered from tape.

According to the High Chaparral web site the latest update was in April 2006 where they said it was not a case of "if" it comes out but "when". Unfortunately, there do seem to be a lot of rights issues to be sorted.

I just wish there was some more news as this is one series I would buy immediately.

Every now and then I check thehighchaparral.com myself, which incidentally has to be the most comprehensive and lavish internet site for a television series with zero DVD releases. I think there's enough material there for a book.

A user comment on IMDB.com dated 6/5/07 indicates that the series was on Paramount's radar for a 2008 release, but I've read nothing else since.

"The High Chaparral" was one of the first if not the first tv western to dispense with studio sets of any kind. You can actually sense the aridness and heat at the Arizona ranch where it was filmed. And the characters actually get dusty! Kind of your anti-"Bonanza" where Little Joe always had clean, pressed pants.

Well it looks like a single episode of the "High Chaparral" will be coming to DVD per Gary OS' post #86 in this thread:

It's to be part of a vintage TV westerns "smorgasbord" release from Timeless Media.

Michael, the "dustiest" looking TV cowboy I've ever seen was Jim Davis in the mid 1950s series "Stories of the Century," a/k/a "Matt Clark, Railroad Detective." In this series, the fictional Clark interacts with real historical figures of the Old West. It was produced by Republic Pictures' TV arm and actually won one of the early Emmy awards. Thirty nine episodes were produced over a season and a half, and it's out on DVD from various public domain releasing companies.

I visited the movie western town Old Tucson, Arizona a year or so after the High Chaparral ended production, and saw the sign post and the Cannon Ranch house there and even sat on the front porch.

The ranch house was actually a short walk from the main Old Tucson town area. When they filmed Indian attacks and other action scenes outside the ranch house, they were really showing it from the three sides that didn't show the town. When you stood with your back to the town the Ranch house really looked like it was in the desert, out in the middle of nowhere...at least on three sides.

I've visited the set of the HC several times and one thing I remember was how small the house was and that if you tapped on the wall it didn't sound very substancial.

I know there was a fire at Old Tucson Studios a few years ago so don't know if the set still exists.

The High Chaparral is being released on DVD in Europe - Germany to be precise with season 1 coming out next month.

I believe there is an English soundtrack too.

Amazon Germany have the details.

This was the show that caused the government to force the networks out of the syndication business. NBC was forcing stations to take this show if they wanted Bonanza.

I just check the German Amazon and the price is 39.95 euros.  How much is that in US dollars?

1 EUR = $1.30 at current exchange rates.  Not good.  It means that the set is going for $52 w/o shipping.

The buttons are all the same as Amazon US, so just follow the ordering path.  If you already have an amazon account, your address and payment details should already be there.  You may want to open up a currency converter in another tab so yo know how much you're spending.  Does your friend have an all-region, PAL-capable DVD player?

Go to the Amazon German site, click on the button top right titled 'Impressum'.

Scoll down, you will find a section on the left which tells you how to order in English

If of interest to anyone who bought 'High Chaparral' S1 , Season 2 is coming out in Germany on Dec 7th & can be found on Amazon's German site.
