subfloor vs. adding second subwoofer

I have a question.

Some have said they wish they would have installed a subfloor because they lose the bass and feel from the subwoofer. If you don't install a subfloor and only have carpet and pad would adding a second subwoofer in the rear of the room compensate for this??

Thanks.

Re: subfloor vs. adding second subwoofer

Movieman,
I am probably the last person that needs to answer this question but I see no one has responded so I will tell you would I did.

I have my room in the basement with not subfloor just carpet and pad over concrete. I run two subs and base shakers which makes me happy. I know you should do a sound check to find the ideal placement of the second sub to make sure that the two subs are not cancelling it each other out in your listening position. I just moved by second sub to a couple of different spots until I liked the sound and went with it.

Re: subfloor vs. adding second subwoofer

What are you trying to accomplish? More tactile sensation in the floor?

First, I think it would be much cheaper to go with a 2nd or maybe a larger sub instead of adding a sub-floor. I have carpet and padding on a concrete slab and I can feel the vibrations in the floor. In fact I can feel them all the way to the other corner of the house. My wife has felt vibrations on the back patio.

My sub uses a pair of 15" titanium coned, high excursion drivers with a professional amp. It is flat from 80hz to 17hz with usable output well below that. What you need is a sub that will dig with authority.
