Trick magnetic bug

Thread Starter
When I was in gradeschool in the (70s) a friend brought a cool magnetic bug to school. It was a very realistic giant housefly which he could set on his desktop and then manipulate with a second magnet under the desk. It was very high on the creepy scale (and therefore cool scale for scoolboys!)

With the über-powerful magnets of today I thought this would be a fun thing to get for my kids.... OK - really it is for me.

I have looked all over Amazon, Ebay and the internet but come up empty. All I can find is photo magnets or the Mosquito Magnet (tm).

Does anyone here know where I can find this?

Here are some flies:

Fly Magnets from Things You Never Knew Existed at SHOP.COM

I can't know if they fit the bill for you, since this is the first I've heard of this. I found another site with some grasshoppers and stuff. I found those with a search on realistic bug magnet. I found these with realistic fly magnet. Insert another bug and maybe that'll come up.

Re: Trick magnetic bug

If you can't find the magnet toy, just teach them how to catch a real fly or bug. Then you find the girl in class with the longest hair and steal one strand. Tie a little slip knot and put it around the fly's neck. Now you have a real pet on a leash. Definitely high on the creepy scale.

Never done that but it reminds me of back in the day when we would catch Dragon Fly's and tie a thread to them and release them. It was funny and cool back then but it's actually pretty mean now that I think about it and would not let my kids do it. (when I have kids that is).
