Hey, i have recently been looking into setting up a nice audio system for my home. I know that it all starts with knowing how you want your sytem to sound and buying the right receiver to do the job. One big question i have for you all is if there are special types of receivers that have multiple subwoofer outputs. I like my music to bump so i would like to know if you all could recommend a receiver that will power a good deal of speakers along with the possibility of more than one subwoofer. (should that even be available).

Re: Multi sub output
Most subwoofers (and pretty all the better ones) aren't powered by the receiver because have their own internal amps. The receiver only supplies the signal. And one really good sub is usually better than two average ones.If you do decide to use two subs some receivers are 7.2 meanning they have two sub outs. But a y splitter on a receiver with one sub out will work just about as well.
Re: Multi sub output
alright, the main reason i was looking into more than one sub output is because i currently have a subpar woofer and would like to get another and i figured i would just keep the old one. in this case maybe ill simply upgrade to a higher performing woofer. does anyone have any feelings towards wireless subwoofers? such as the boston Acoustic HPS 8Wi?

Re: Multi sub output
I am no expert on subwoofers, however it makes practical sense to me to remove the subwoofer that is not doing the job completely from your system and not have it in the mix at all. While the subs are working at a low frequency, having the room balanced at low hz would seem tough to do with two different models/types of subs having differing SPL, etc. There are a lot of decent subs out there. Velodyne is well reviewed and Aperion Audio also makes a nice sub for the money. I have personally used Aperion products and can voice for them as good value for money. If you have the bucks to get a higher end receiver and it must have two sub outputs, check out the Denon AVR-5308CI. I love this receiver and have it in my personal system.
On another note you can also purchase subs with a separate amp i.e. Velodyne Subcontractor Series offers 10", 12" & 15" subs that are powered by their matching SC1250 amplifier. One amp will drive two subs. There are also other manufactures (Klipsch is one I know) that sell this type of configuration.
