Where to go to print poster size version of hi-res digital image files?

Does anyone have any advice on where to go to get a quality print* - poster size, approximately 3ft x 3ft - of a high resolution digital file?

I would like to do with this with this image of the Horsehead Nebula:

Among others, a 47.6MB(!!) TIFF file is offered to make this possible, so I would think the resulting image would look awesome.

FedEx/Kinkos said it would cost around $75 using a special, large format laserjet printer. Is a laserjet printer the best way to print this, or is there a another but less expensive method of the same quality.

Would appreciate any advice, thanks!

* the owners of the site say it's O.K. to print this for personal use

There is no Laserjet that can print a 3' x 3' print.

They probably were talking about a DesignJet which is an ink based printer and it can do a fantastic job printing a 3x3 print. It of course all depends on the original file.

There are many places where you can get the print done, heck even Longs Drugs in the Bay Area has DesignJet in some of their stores. Just look around but I suspect that the price quoted you at Kinkos is probably close to what most will charge.

Look at some of the online services. Mpix.com has always been one of my favorites. They don't offer 3'x3', but they do have 2'x3'.

I've used mpix for enlargements of some of my digital photos, too. The biggest I've had printed, though, is 30"x20".

Thanks for the help guys.

Actually it doesn't have to be 3ft x 3ft - I just thought that would look good.

Actually.......a larger one would be cool too: I remember taking a field trip back in junior high to the Johnson Space Center down here and in the entrance to the visitors center was this HUGE image of the moon's surface with Earth in the background floating in inky blackness. This poster(??) reached from floor to ceiling and was maybe around 10ft wide. They actually sold this in the souvenier shop (I think it came in sections). The image was printed on what almost looked like regular notebook paper & was a bit grainy but it was still stunning. I still think about buying something like that for my mancave where my HT is now & what a neat thing to have nearby while reading Heinlein or Asimov.

I've used Pixel Outpost for large poster-sized prints.

Try your local Sam's Club if you are a member. I know someone who had a digital picture printed at 20x24 for something like $11 or $12. I'm not sure how big they will go. Don't know what Costco pricing is.

Neat picture!

I had excellent results from kodakkgallery.com for a picture from my honeymoon....
